Zebra Crossings was founded in 2009 and provides empowerment programs for youth and teens with chronic medical conditions. Whether it is a week-long camp or weekend activities, care is always provided by trained medical staff. We aim to lessen the burden of chronic medical conditions by connecting kids through play and giving respite for caregivers. Zebra Crossings is a fun, safe place where kids just get to be kids.
The need: A child is diagnosed with asthma, a heart condition, diabetes, or epilepsy. These chronic health conditions result in serious stress issues for families. The child is often distinguished as different and limitations are assigned to them, which fundamentally alters a child’s self-perception. Our medical volunteers give parents peace of mind and give children a chance to explore without parents always needing to be present to protect and control their lives. Siblings may join our programs, so they can be worry free as well and this offers parents respite time. Our camps allow children and families to have a place to make discoveries, feel empowered and turn for support and guidance to alleviate stress.
Our programs: Zebra Crossings core values of play, independence, achievement and wellness are interwoven throughout all social gatherings, day camps, family events, overnight retreats, and camps.
Monthly day and overnight programs in the NH Seacoast region for youth ages 6-13
