Development Director

Mayhew Program

Fifty-three years strong, Mayhew challenges and helps at-risk New Hampshire boys to believe in themselves, work well with others, and find their best.  Over 200 boys are served annually with a transformative summer experience and school-year mentoring.  It is tuition-free for the boys and the staff are dedicated to providing them with vibrant support.  

Matching the boys with an ever more responsive and meaningful program requires a true and total team effort by the staff, the Board and Mayhew’s family of contributors and friends.

With an annual budget of $1.42 million, over 70% comes from charitable contributions, Mayhew has built an endowment of over $5.7 million and has recently completed a $630,000 capital improvements campaign.


Mayhew seeks an individual who believes fervently in its mission and work and is eager to share with others the power of its support for the boys and the vital role financial contributions play in keeping Mayhew tuition-free and strong for them.  This individual knows the importance of nurturing and stewarding existing relationships while working diligently, creatively and energetically in developing new ones that build Mayhew’s visibility and strengthen its impact. Excellent in relationship building and fundraising execution, the Development Director will monitor, measure, and report on all aspects of the development program.  Mission driven and team-oriented, the individual will be someone who works well and happily in a small organization; and who has the humor and grace to manage many relationships, tasks, and challenges.  We are looking for a patient leader, a team player, and an excellent colleague.

Reports to: Executive Director

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of fundraising experience with increased responsibility; CFRE or CFRE eligible preferred.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with a diverse group of constituents across the state and region.
  • Excellent skill and understanding of constituent management software.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle or access to a reasonable alternative.
  • Experience with digital media marketing and/or web content management is preferred.
  • Strong technical skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with attention to detail.
Responsibilities:

Annual Giving

  • Further strengthen a culture where giving individuals feel like true contributors.
  • Determine annual giving goals and develop a comprehensive plan utilizing available resources.
  • Implement and oversee all aspects of solicitation.
  • Working closely with the Administrative Manager, oversee the donor database inclusive of data entry, gift processing, gift acknowledgements, reporting and all additional aspects of Mayhew’s constituent relations software.

Major Gifts & Planned Giving

  • Design and implement a moves management system.
  • Formalize a Major Gifts program.
  • Design and implement a plan to grow the Legacy Society.
  • Working closely with the Executive Director, cultivate and develop proposals for major gift and planned giving prospects.

Stewardship & Cultivation

  • Build and execute a donor cultivation strategy to increase contributions to Mayhew. 
  • Coordinate visits/tour requests with stakeholders and public officials.
  • Working closely with the Board of Trustees, implement a robust stewardship program.

Special Events

  • Build upon the success of Mayhew’s special events and identify potential new opportunities.
  • Provide oversight and leadership in all aspects of special events to ensure participant satisfaction and financial success.

Grants

  • Working closely with the Grant Writer, identify potential grants, participate in grant writing, monitoring and reporting.

Communications & Marketing

  • Write content for key publications including newsletters, annual report, monthly e-newsletter, e-blasts.
  • Develop content for website, social media, events, and community presentations.
  • Write press releases and advisories, distributing to appropriate media outlets.

Finance

  • Working closely with the Executive Director and the management team, assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
