We are seeking the organization’s first Director of Development to build upon our initial fundraising efforts, improve systems and grow beyond an event-based and grant-based model. New Futures is a non-profit organization that educates, collaborates and advocates to improve the health and wellness of all New Hampshire residents through policy change. We are a non-partisan organization. We envision a State and local communities where public policies help keep New Hampshire a healthy state to live, work, and raise a family. New Futures supports state and local policies that promote New Hampshire's public health, improve prevention, treatment, and recovery programs, and increase healthy early childhood development. Our policy perspectives are grounded in evidence-based areas of focus that are proven to raise public health outcomes. Our areas of focus to create positive lasting change are:  Alcohol and other drugs; Healthcare; Public Health; Early Childhood; Access to Behavioral Health Treatment; Children’s Behavioral Health.

New Futures, New Hampshire’s leading health policy and advocacy organization, is seeking aninnovative and detail-oriented Communications Director to lead its external messaging, marketing and public relations work.  The Communications Director will work with New Futures’ Policy and Community Engagement staff to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to support legislative and advocacy efforts and to achieve identified policy goals.  

The individual in this position must be collaborative, well-organized, and have exceptional, demonstrated written and oral communication skills.  The Communications Director will be responsible for developing and distributing all print and electronic communications, including but not limited to one-pagers, talking points, emails, social media and website content, digital advertisements, development materials, press releases, and news editorials.  The ideal candidate will have knowledge of public health policies and New Hampshire’s political dynamics.  The Communications Director will supervise the Communications Coordinator and will work collaboratively with New Futures’ staff, strategic consultants and others to help advance organizational goals, development and messaging.


This position requires a minimum of two years of work experience preferably in marketing, journalism and/or social media management.  A bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or Journalism is from a recognized college or university is preferred. 

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills;
  • Well-organized and eager to collaborate with other staff, stakeholders and allied partner organizations in advancing policy goals;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to serve New Futures staff and external stakeholders including New Futures board members, vendors, partner organizations, and the general public;
  • Team player and collaborator;
  • Ability to develop strong and effective working relationships with diverse and multi-cultural constituencies including New Futures staff, policymakers, the media, and others;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, graphic and video production tools (Canva and Adobe), HTML coding and back end website development, targeted emails, CRM technology, google analytics and SEO, and social media platforms;
  • Internet research skills;
  • Willingness to experiment with new media and software in order to maximize best practices for New Futures outreach and advocacy efforts;
  • Ability to maintain a professional work environment at all times.
  • In collaboration with New Futures’ policy staff, develop, implement, and evaluate communications plans for ongoing and campaign advocacy to advance New Futures’ policy positions.
  • Manage development and distribution of all print and electronic communications including, but not limited to fact sheets, flyers, emails, brochures, one-pagers, e-newsletters, social media, event marketing, and website content.
  • Lead development and maintenance of New Futures’ online presence, including website updates and social media, to engage new audiences and cultivate organizational advocates.
  • Prepare media including statements, press releases, editorials, op-eds to increase public awareness and grow support for New Futures policy priorities.
  • Work with New Futures’ Development Director to create print, electronic materials to support emerging development and fundraising program.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with local print, radio, and broadcast media outlets.
  • Work collaboratively with VP of Policy in coordinating press outreach, messaging, and developing any relevant policy-related materials.
  • Manage media requests for all staff.
  • In partnership with policy and community engagement staff, orchestrate communications plan for advocate turnout on specific policy issues.
  • With VP of Policy, develop and maintain an editorial calendar on key campaigns and ongoing policy priorities.
  • With Policy Staff, determine the frame and pitch for news stories that raise awareness of New Futures initiatives.
  • Provide technical support to staff with social media, PowerPoint, Photoshop, and other tools.
  • Regular in-state travel and some out-of-state travel are required (as needed).
