Operations Assistant

Gundalow Company

The nonprofit Gundalow Company’s mission is to protect the Piscataqua region’s maritime heritage and environment through education and action. To fulfill our mission, we use a recently built, traditional, wooden gundalow as our floating/sailing classroom for school groups, River Rats Camp, Public sails and private charters.

The Gundalow Company is committed to working in partnership with those who have been historically and are currently excluded from access to and stewardship of the local waterways. Just as the Piscataqua River is strengthened by every stream, river, and creek that flows to it, our community is strengthened by individuals from a diversity of experiences, identities, cultures, heritages, perspectives, and values, who historically and currently use, access, and enjoy the resources of the Piscataqua Watershed.

Join the dynamic crew of the Gundalow Company, seeking a part time Operations Assistant to coordinate with our events, marketing, and other operations tasks. This person will work directly with the Operations Manager and other office staff.

While the Gundalow sails May through October, this position is year-round including off-season fundraiser events, planning and non-sailing events. This position is part time, at least 20 hours per week, primarily on weekdays with occasional weekend events.

  • Willingness to learn about the Gundalow Company’s mission and local history
  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills, with careful attention to detail and commitment to excellence
  • Experience with Google Docs/Sheets and Microsoft Office products
  • The ability to be self-motivated, organized, and adaptable; to work both independently and as part of a team; to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; and to complete tasks under time constraints
  • Share the Gundalow’s mission, programs, events, and volunteer opportunities
  • Manage the Gundalow Company Welcome Center at 60 Marcy St., Portsmouth
  • Sell tickets and merchandise using provided workstation & devices
  • Answer the phone, respond to voicemails, take care of guests’ questions
  • Manage merchandise in store and online including placing orders
  • Assist with marketing, including online posts and distribution of flyers/schedules throughout Portsmouth
  • Work with dockside Ticket Sales Associates and provide support as needed
  • Assist office staff with event planning, data entry, mailings, and other tasks as needed
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Implement weekly communications schedules shared among Operations and Education staff.

  • Input recurring special events such as Concert Cruises, Speaker Sails, Science Cafes, and movie showings into online tourism calendars.
  • Collaborate on regular outgoing communications such as eblasts in MailChimp
