Accounting Manager

Gather serves those in our community experiencing hunger. We provide nutritious food through innovative distribution programs and our Pantry Market. We offer nutrition education and recipes for healthy living. In addition, we collaborate with community partners to address the root causes of hunger.


Position Title:    Accounting Manager

Reports to:         Chief Operations Officer

Classification:    The position is a salary position with the expectation of working 40 hours per week.

General Description of Position:  Candidate will work closely with COO and department managers in the preparation and distribution of meaningful financial reports.  Candidate must be able to work independently and demonstrate a strong understanding of QuickBooks, General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and the Microsoft Office suite of applications.  Candidate must also have an Accounting Degree and at least 3 years of experience.

  • Dedication and commitment to the organization’s mission and values
  • Strong analytical and technical skills.
  • Broad experience working with QuickBooks in managing daily, weekly, and month-end accounting process.
  • Proven ability to make logical and sound decisions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products and other business software.  
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, project management and problem-solving skills.
  • 3+ years of experience in a finance/accounting position
  • Broad experience in planning, budgeting, managing, and working with a board of directors.
  • Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a goal-oriented, service conscious company
Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities/Core competencies include:

  • Coordinate, analyze and prepare management reports providing accurate and timely cost information to support Leadership Team members effectively managing the agency.  Perform special projects as required.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of relevant Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting, employee relations (hiring/terminating policies) and other corporate policies.
  • Candidate will work with and manage third party service providers – invoicing and payroll.
  • Candidate will manage vendor payment process to ensuring all supporting documentation if retained and that all disbursements are authorized.
  • Prepare annual operating budget, effectively help manage resources within budget guidelines by tracking agency’s performance to established budget guidelines. 
  • Coordinate and complete annual audit.
  • Assist with preparation of grant applications and required quarterly/annual grant performance reports.
  • Work with HR and various department managers to ensure personnel files are up to date and comply with all regulatory and/or legal compliance requirements.
  • Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
