Chief Operating Officer


Gather serves those in our community experiencing hunger. We provide nutritious food through innovative distribution programs and our Pantry Market. We offer nutrition education and recipes for healthy living. In addition, we collaborate with community partners to address the root causes of hunger.

Direct Reports:        

  • Warehouse Manager, Member Services Coordinator,
  • Transportation Manager, Warehouse support staff (3)

Compensation:         Base Salary of $55,000 - $60,000 with 10% bonus potential.

Classification:           This is a salary position with the expectation of working ~30 hrs./week.

General Description:   
Gather is searching for an experienced Chief Operating Office to oversee our explosive growth, ongoing operations, and mobile food delivery programs. The individual will participate in expansion activities, set comprehensive goals for performance and growth, lead employees to encourage maximum performance and have an aptitude for decision-making and effective problem-solving skills.


Key Roles/Core Competencies:

  • Serve as a leader for the organization and promote Gather’s mission, programs, and values.
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain and/or operations management
  • Hands-on candidate with high integrity, willingness to take ownership, and enthusiasm for working with teams.
  • Must be detail oriented in addition to being an innovative and strategic thinker with initiative and passion.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate staff.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data and make sound operational decisions based on the data.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the business to the budgeted P&L.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with individuals and groups from diverse populations.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and to solve problems.
  • Ability to delegate tasks as appropriate.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the agency effectively and professionally with community leaders.
  • Ability to serve as a role model for other staff members and to help maintain a professional workplace.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations, supply chain, or engineering.

The position will specifically be responsible for:

  • Work with the Executive Leadership Team to develop and implement long-term growth strategies.
  • Analyze internal operations and identify areas of process enhancement
  • Develop actionable strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short-term and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the CEO
  • Monitor performance with tracking and establishing corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports, both current and forecasting
  • Directly oversee operations, HR, and accounting, enforcing compliance and acting when necessary
  • Manage, train and mentor growing workforce which includes both W-2 employees and volunteers.
  • Implement processes and procedures to drive efficiency and worker safety.
  • Provide logistical and ongoing operating support for all program managers to ensure the successful completion of existing and new program offerings.
  • Coordinate data input and database accuracy for all operating metrics – inventory acquisition, in-coming receipts, outgoing program disbursements and disposal.
  • Strategic role in evaluating and coordinating potential transition to new warehouse location.
  • Manage preventive maintenance, registration, and effective utilization for existing fleet of (5) vehicles
  • Coordinate with external partners including local vendors, restaurants, and other non-profit agencies.
  • Participate and support Gather’s external fundraising events.
