Senior Accountant

New Hampshire Bar Association

The NH Bar Association (NHBA) is a statewide professional association that supports members of the legal profession and their service to the public and justice system. The NHBA is a unified bar association, meaning that bar association membership is mandatory for all those licensed to practice law in the State of New Hampshire. In addition to providing an array of services and benefits to its members, the NH Bar Association facilitates open and continuing dialogue among lawyers, the courts and other justice system stakeholders while acting as a resource for all those interested in advancing a just society.   NHBA's Business Operations Department supports all depatments and affiliates at the NH Bar Center.

The NH Bar Association also works to increase access to justice in New Hampshire through its Lawyer Referral and Law Related Education programs as well as through its support of the NH Pro Bono Referral System, which matches qualified unrepresented parties with volunteer lawyers in a variety of cases, and NHBA's charitable arm, the NH Bar Foundation.


As member of the NHBA Business Operations Department, reporting to the Associate Executive Director for Operations, the Senior Accountant assists with annual financial budgets and financial reporting, reconciles general ledger accounts monthly, performs monthly bank statement reconciliations, posts accounting entries to the general ledger daily (MS Dynamics GP/Associate), performs payroll and benefit functions (Paychex Payroll), updates the employee benefits portal (NEEBCo Connect), participates in annual attorney license renewal process in addition to contributing to other department functions as assigned or required.


Candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or similiar study and prior experience with budgeting and financial statement preparation and reporting.  Experience with MS Dynamics GP (Great Plains) and Paychex Payroll a plus.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite will also be very helpful.  


Accounting & Finance:

  • Assist in the development of the annual budgets for NH Bar Association, its affiliates, and agencies
  • Maintain Daily Operating Cash Balance Report
  • Daily posting to the general ledger of accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger transaction journals in Associate and MS Dynamics GP
  • Reconciliation of monthly bank statements with general ledger for NH Bar Association, its affiliates, and agencies
  • Prepare account reconciliation reports and schedules as part of the month-end financial statement close
  • Provide support to Accounts Receivable Administrator and Accounting Administrator 
  • Troubleshoot problems as they arise and suggest possible solutions as they relate to transactional accounting, payroll, and human resources
  • Maintain and update documentation of policy and processes within the Accounting Supervisor, Accounts Receivable Administrator and Accounting Administrator positions

Payroll & Benefits:

  • Process payroll using Paychex Payroll (biweekly and semi-monthly for non-exempt and exempt staff)
  • Make payroll-related disbursements and assist with reporting requirements related to NHBA retirement programs
  • Responsible for benefits administration in coordination with the Associate Executive Director for Operations, including but not limited to, benefits-vendor communication
  • Responsible for accurate information entered into and reported from the employee portal (NEEBCo Connect)
  • Review and reconcile quarterly and year-end payroll tax reports prepared by NHBA’s payroll service (Paychex); reconciles and distributes employee W-2 forms
  • Prepare personnel cost reports for NH Pro Bono Referral System
  • Prepare payroll analysis and statistical reports for use by the Management Team
  • Responsible for oversight of time and attendance records
  • Maintains personnel files as per regulation requirements
  • Administers staff outing and holiday luncheon programs in coordination with the Associate Executive Director for Operations

Annual Attorney License Renewal:

  • Assist with annual attorney license renewal planning, production, and distribution in collaboration with the Associate Executive Director of Operations and Accounts Receivable Administrator


  • Contribute to maintaining a work environment that promotes the success of other members of the department and the Association
  • Promote and deliver superior member service to NHBA’s 8,500+ members
  • Performs other work including special projects as requested
