Certified Recovery Support Worker

Elliot Hospital

ED Substance Abuse Disorder, Manchester

Clerical & Administrative Support - 40 hours / week (Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm)


Function as a role model to peers; exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills; serve as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support.  Provides a wide range of tasks to assist peers in regaining independence within the community and mastery over their own recovery process.


  • Collaborates and participates with the multidisciplinary team in the ongoing clinical assessment of patient's care and status.
  • Assists clients in setting up and sustaining self-help groups, as well as means of locating joining existing groups.
  • Assists clients in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy.  This is accomplished through regular meetings, individual and group sessions.  Through the use of role playing/modeling techniques, the CRSW provides opportunities for others to demonstrate how they have handled similar problems, or how to handle problems that may arise in interactions with others.
  • Participates in daily unit rounds.
  • Independently or with the assistance of licensed treatment team members, utilize and teach problem solving techniques; discussions will be utilized where clients will share common problems in daily living and methods they have employed to manage and cope with these problems.
  • Assists clients with building social skills in the community that will enhance job acquisition and tenure.
  • Assist the client in obtaining affordable housing of their choice in the most integrated, independent and least intrusive or restrictive environment.
  • Conducts education/support groups for patients/families as assigned.
  • Collaborates with other agencies to ensure access to resources for clients.
  • Assists clients with accessing healthcare.
  • Completes documentation, care notes, records incidents and all other client related data on a regular basis.
  • Develops discharge plan in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.


  • Ability to deliver patient care in a manner consistent that is appropriate to patient's age, physical ability and intellectual development.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in assessing treatment and responses and adapting care to meet the needs of the patient population served.
  • Ability to endure period of heavy workload or stress.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
  • Familiarity with information system design and development.
  • Ability to transport self to and from off-site locations.
  • Ability to plan and perform diversified duties requiring an extensive knowledge of a particular field and the sue of a wide range of procedures.  Involves the exercise of judgement in the analysis of facts and conditions regarding individual problems or transactions to determine what actions should be taken, within the limits of standard practice.
  • Ability to work with other members of the healthcare team and community to provide the best comfort, caring and curing.   


  • Education: Must be CRSW (Certified Recovery Support Worker) or willing to work toward certification within six months of employment start date.
  • Experience: One (1) to three (3) years of experience working in the Substance Use recovery field.


  • Schedule: Generally, Monday through Friday, day shift
