Riverbend Community Mental Health

Founded in 1963, Riverbend Community Mental Health is a private, nonprofit organization providing specialized behavioral health services in central New Hampshire. Core services include 24/7 emergency mobile crisis services; counseling services for children, adults, and families; addiction treatment; and community support, vocational services, and residential programs for adults and seniors. Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based behavioral health services in New Hampshire, is seeking a full-time Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  The CEO is responsible for the overall administration, planning, development, coordination, and evaluation of all operations of Riverbend and its subsidiaries and behavioral healthcare services provided by Capital Region Healthcare.  The CEO provides leadership and organizational focus to ensure a productive, responsive and mission-driven community behavioral health organization.

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in psychology, social work, public health, business administration, or a related field is required.
  • A clinical degree at either the bachelor’s or graduate level is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience providing or directing the provision of behavioral health services.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at the executive management level.
  • Experience diversifying and expanding revenue sources through a variety of activities including, but not limited to, fundraising.
  • Serve as an advocate and the official spokesperson for Riverbend with the public-at-large, the community, and appropriate local, state and federal bodies. 
  • Assures agency is strategically positioned to maximize opportunities by overseeing planning processes involving all key stakeholders.
  • Articulates agency vision and goals internally and externally and directs agency resources to assure implementation.
  • Maintains ongoing, two-way communication with staff to keep them informed, to fully utilize the talents and ideas of staff in decision-making, and to create a positive work environment and a high quality, stable workforce. 
  • Oversees and evaluates senior management team and other direct reports in the performance of their duties. 
  • Ensures that clinical care offered within the Riverbend system is of the highest quality.
  • Monitors agency financial performance.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and pursues, with Board of Directors guidance and approval, opportunities to diversify and expand revenue sources for the benefit of the organization, the individuals and families it serves, and the community at large.
  • Develops and sustains collaborations with other organizations in the community.
  • Assists the Board of Directors in fund-raising and development activities.
  • Proposes and negotiates contracts with public and private entities and ensuring compliance with the same.
  • Works with the Bureau of Behavioral Health and others in state government to advocate for the needs of the individuals and families Riverbend serves and to secure adequate funding.
  • Attends all meetings of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee and other Board Committees as appropriate.
  • Ensures that the Board receives timely, accurate, and germane reports about finances and operations.
  • Assures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations by appointing a corporate compliance officer and monitoring the activities of the corporate compliance committee.
  • Provides leadership at the Capital Regional Healthcare level to promote access to behavioral healthcare throughout the system by working to improve and support behavioral services provided through CRHC and Riverbend to meet community need.
  • Participates in Concord Hospital’s Senior Management Team to ensure behavioral health services are coordinated with all departments and are appropriate to the needs of patients and providers.
  • Collaborates with and supports providers in the Concord Hospital Medical Group outpatient practices to meet the behavioral health needs of patients in their practices.
  • Ensures necessary psychiatric staffing in the Department of Psychiatry to meet the needs of Concord Hospital patients and staff.
  • Addresses performance related to contract requirements with DHHS.
