At Paper Crane Associates, we understand that making the right decisions for your organization’s future can be daunting. Sarah Glatt, Founder and Principal Consultant

Though I’ve spent my career in the nonprofit sectors, my first love was science. In third grade, my teacher had us grow plants from seeds that had been sent into space. I remember being fascinated by the growing process, the promise of the future and the scientific method that served as a means to get there. It was eye opening to consider how research, thoughtful analysis, and discussion could lead us to more answers and even more valuable questions.

These early lessons shaped how I help you find more ways to plan and run your organization more effectively. I founded Paper Crane Associates in January 2016 to facilitate practical methods and reasonable processes to accurately identify needs, help you test ideas, challenge the old ways of doing things, and seek feasible solutions.

I built this approach over a decade of consulting, including more than 7 years as part of TDC, one of the nation’s oldest nonprofit consulting firms, and prior experiences working in the non-profit and small business sectors.  Prior to this, I earned an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where I developed skillsets in social entrepreneurship and strategic business processes. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University, where I furthered my interest in the scientific approach by majoring in Biology and Biochemistry. And as a kid, I took my first steps into entrepreneurship, watching my parents run their own small business: a paper printing company that inspired Paper Crane’s name.

In my work, I’ve discovered that like a seed, you and your organization can only grow when you’re planned for and well nurtured. My passion and the work we do are about making sure you have all that you need to make that growth possible.

Sarah Glatt is the Founder of Paper Crane Associates. As its principal consultant, Sarah helps nonprofits and foundations their leaders make better plans for today and tomorrow. Sarah lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two children. When she’s not helping grow nonprofits and foundations, she’s tending to a favorite personal project – Paper Crane Farm – a homestead where she is often making jam, picking apples, and enjoying life with her family.

Sarah was engaged by Maria Mitchell Association for a strategic planning process.  We worked together to define target audiences for the organization's work, identify their unmet needs, and design programs to meet their needs.  Other core questions in this planning process included how best to align the space utilization of facilities with the organization’s vision, how to develop a proposed renovation schedule that maximized ROI but limited impact on financials and mission, how to develop a plan for construction of a new facility, and how to develop an achievable campaign to fund construction costs, operating costs, and balance sheet investments.
