Excellence in Governance Certificate Program: Ethics and Accountability in the 21st Century Nonprofit Board

Nonprofit boards have many roles to play as stewards of the organization, but none is more important than assuring ethical behavior and providing sound fiscal oversight. Join us for this four-part certificate program as we explore real-life applications of ethics and best practices in the nonprofit boardroom. Perfect for new board members or experienced board leaders wanting to brush up on new approaches.

Facilitated by: Mary Ellen Jackson, Consultant, Mary Ellen Jackson Consulting

Sessions will run from 8:30 AM–12:00 PM, with a complimentary networking lunch following the program from 12:00–1:00 PM.

Session 3: Strategic Practices of High-Impact Boards

In this session, we will move the conversation into strategies that nonprofit leaders can use to elevate the quality and impact of their boards governance practices. We’ll discuss the elements involved in the “Governance as Leadership” model that most high-performing boards practice today, which involves board members in three core roles; Strategic, Fiduciary, and Generative (or sense-making).

Using TED Talks from Simon Sinek and Dan Pallotta to propel the conversation, this session will be devoted to ways to greatly enrich the effectiveness of the board, keeping in mind the ethical considerations of strategic decision-making.

Secretary of State’s Office and the Center for Public Responsibility and Corporate Citizenship awarded to Saint Anselm College in 2013. The endowment was created from a settlement reached between the New Hampshire Securities Bureau and Tyco International, LTD in 2002 and is administered by the University of New Hampshire Foundation.
