2019 Nonprofit Leadership Summit

The Nonprofit Leadership Summit, the NH Center for Nonprofits' signature event, brings together 250+ nonprofit board and staff leaders, along with corporate and philanthropic partners to explore trends and issues impacting the sector.

Keynote Speaker: Joan Garry

Joan Garry, keynote speaker of the 2019 Nonprofit Leadership Summit

Under the best of circumstances, the nonprofit model is just plain hard -- too few resources, too little time and a sense of urgency that can be overwhelming. The world today hardly qualifies as the "best of circumstances." Our world is chaotic, uncertain and deeply polarized. While many believe this societal disruption is a challenge to meeting our missions, Joan feels quite differently.

Joan will introduce her model of shared leadership and speak to the unique opportunity this seemingly broken -- and broken-hearted -- world of ours offers to nonprofits to step up and to illustrate what real leadership looks like.

Afternoon Breakout Sessions

Ask Joan

Demographic Trends and Insights

Over the past decade, New Hampshire has experienced slow population growth and its population has grown older. Recent evidence suggests New Hampshire’s population is beginning to grow faster because more people are moving to the state from elsewhere in the U.S. In this session, Ken Johnson, Senior Demographer at the Carsey School of Public Policy and a nationally recognized expert on U.S. demographic trends will share the latest data and insights we can use in our work. Presented by: Ken Johnson, Carsey School of Public Policy

The State Budget: What You Need to Know Now

In this session, we will hear the latest updates on the State’s Budget process and the key policy discussions taking place. We’ll also explore how NH’s residents – particularly those with low incomes - are faring in this economy, and strategies for advancing economic prosperity for all. Presented by: AnnMarie French and Phil Sletten, New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute

Development in an Era of Widening Wealth Disparity

We live in a time where the rich are getting richer, the working and middle classes are slipping behind, and the upper-middle class has growing concerns with funding their education, healthcare, and retirement. What are the implications for fundraising? In this interactive session, we will discuss strategies for raising major money from those who have it, while still maintaining broad community support. Participants will come away with an understanding, first, of how the country is changing, and second, how to develop fundraising strategies that make practical and philosophical sense for their organizations. Presented by: Al Cantor, Alan Cantor Consulting
