Building an Actionable Communications Plan

Today’s world offers a vast array of opportunities for your nonprofit to reach new audiences, expand your base of friends and supporters, and raise visibility for your mission and purpose. In an environment where communications platforms and marketing options have exploded, but staff resources and budgets are limited, how do you create a marketing communications plan that consistently supports your nonprofit’s mission and goals, reaches the people you intend to reach, and (oh yes,) can actually be implemented?

Building on a strong foundation of strategic goals, organizational branding, and audience segmentation, a planned, integrated approach to marketing communications will advance your nonprofit in an effective, meaningful way. This hands-on workshop will help you:

  • Understand the elements, and the importance, of a solid, strategically-based foundation for your communications plan.
  • Review your stakeholders and identify your target audience(s), and their needs.
  • Assess your communications options and opportunities.
  • Apply the critical concept of integration in your communications planning.
  • Build an executable marketing communications plan.
  • Determine who should be involved in developing your organization’s communications plan.
  • Set the groundwork to measure your plan’s effectiveness.

Participants will understand and be able to apply the practical knowledge and tools necessary to create an actionable communications plan to support your organization’s objectives.

About the Presenter

David Deziel is principal of DavidGeorge Communications LLC, helping nonprofits and businesses build their brand, craft their marketing and communications strategies, and implement their communications efforts – from social media, online marketing, and websites to email, collateral, and traditional advertising. Prior to launching DavidGeorge Communications, David has 25 years of experience directing and supporting the marketing and communications efforts of several for-profit and nonprofit organizations. David also teaches marketing and strategic planning courses in the MBA in Sustainability program at Antioch University New England.
