Nonprofit seasonal conference center seeking hands on full-time

Development Manager

Star Island, a $4.2 million non-profit organization, with corporate offices in Portsmouth, NH is looking to add a full-time Development Manager to their organization. 

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Development Manager is responsible for managing Star Island Corporation’s (SIC) fund development program. The Development Manager implements both annual and long-term plans to secure financial support through unrestricted annual and planned giving and provides support for targeted giving campaigns. The Development Manager works with development volunteers and serves to support the CEO, the Board of Directors, its committees, volunteers and other staff members.

Essential Functions

  • Manages the day-to-day activities of SIC’s fundraising program.
  • Implements an ambitious annual fund program designed to increase unrestricted private donations each year.  
  • Recruits, manages, and supports fundraising volunteers charged with raising annual unrestricted funds for SIC.
  • Sustains a donor portfolio geared toward increasing annual unrestricted and restricted philanthropic income, including engagement, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, Fund Development Committee, and others, develops goals and strategies for fundraising campaigns and sustained program growth.
  • Provides routine and special reports re: progress to the CEO and volunteer leadership as needed.
  • Researches, writes, obtains, and reports on grants from foundations, corporations and non-profit agencies.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, manages SIC’s planned giving program.
  • In collaboration with the Island Registrar, develops and implements procedures, and supervises research and maintenance of giving records and donor profiles.
  • Serves as member of staff marketing team; assists in development of marketing and communication strategies for SIC overall and specifically those related to fundraising.
  • In conjunction with CEO, Fund Development Committee, the Board of Directors, and consultant(s), works to support major fundraising campaigns through prospect identification, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Coordinates corporate sponsorship program, including event sponsorships.
  • Works with Island Registrar and SIC Finance Department to ensure meticulous tracking and timely acknowledgment of pledges and gifts.
  • Maintains inventory of fundraising supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three to five years of direct fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and securing donations
  • Demonstrated effective management of volunteers 
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills; demonstrated problem-solving ability
  • Overnight stay/residency on Island during scheduled times

Compensation & Benefits

  • This is a full-time opportunity with a flexible hybrid work schedule, though we would consider a part-time position of thirty hours a week. The salary range is $52,000 to $66,000 depending on education, experience, and pro-rated based on schedule.
