HNH Foundation Names Gail Garceau of Bedford, NH as New President

Gail M. Garceau of Bedford, NH has been named the new President of the HNH Foundation. Board Chair Martha McLeod, in making the announcement, called Ms. Garceau “an energetic, multi-talented leader with a demonstrated ability to build strong, collaborative community relationships. Her deep professional roots in New Hampshire were a strong factor in the Search Committee’s decision.”

Ms. Garceau previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the former New Hampshire Healthy Kids Corporation.  Prior to her work with Healthy Kids, she served in consulting, leadership and project management positions in the fields of higher education, health care and community services, including CEO of the Heritage United Way (Manchester) for 10 years. She most recently served as the General Manager of Well Sense Health Plan, one of three managed care organizations selected by the NH Department of Health and Human Services to provide health care coverage to New Hampshire’s Medicaid recipients.

In accepting the HNH Foundation leadership position, Ms. Garceau stated that “It’s an honor and a privilege to join the HNH Foundation and its dedicated Board and staff. The Foundation has a well-earned reputation as a collaborative, nimble and approachable organization that truly understands community needs. Those needs are reflected in funding priorities that help make life healthier for vulnerable children and their families throughout the State.”

The HNH Foundation has become New Hampshire’s leading funder dedicated to increasing health and dental insurance coverage for children, promoting children’s oral health and preventing childhood obesity, with over $700,000 in grants awarded annually.

The HNH Foundation was formed as the result of the merger between Blue Cross/Blue Shield of NH and Matthew Thornton Health Plan. Incorporated in October 1997, the Foundation seeks to improve the health and wellness of New Hampshire’s population, especially vulnerable children, through grants made to community organizations throughout the state.

Over the past two years, since the retirement of the Foundation’s first President, Sandi Van Scoyoc, the HNH Foundation Board has carefully assessed the health needs of New Hampshire children and identified many opportunities to make a significant impact. “Interim President Patti Baum’s effective, competent leadership allowed us to simultaneously conduct a statewide health needs assessment and a national search for a new executive while continuing our core grant-making activities,” stated Martha McLeod.  “With Gail Garceau as our new President and Patti Baum returning to her position as Program Officer, we can hit the ground running with our current and new grant-making priorities.”

The HNH Foundation’s Board of Directors’ Search Committee included Kathleen Thies, Martha McLeod, Steve Paris and Elaine Van Dyke.
