Maryellen Burke is a resident of Portsmouth, NH where she has been a leader in the community since moving here over 25 years ago. Some of her key strengths and expertise include:
“Real Life” experience: 4 plus years in the trenches as an Executive Director. Responsible for strategic plan creation and implementation, budgeting, human resources, facility management, volunteer management, and all the things we ask Executive Directors to do every day.
Fundraising Results: She has honed effective campaign strategies; Led a capital campaign of over $100 million for Nantucket Cottage Hospital with one other major gifts officer and strong board leadership. Participated in dozens of other campaigns from feasibility studies through public phases. Most recently, lead counsel for Rochester NH's Hope on Haven Hill capital campaign which finished on time, on budget.
Mindfulness: Over 12 years study and teaching of meditation and mindfulness practices to reduce stress and increase clarity of priorities and vision.
Measuring impact: Over 6 years research and evaluation experience using qualitative and quantitative studies for impact and process improvement. Evidence-based program design experience as well.
Donor relationship building: Philanthropy advisor for donors to the statewide community foundation for over 10 years. Strong experience in donor portfolios, generational philanthropy, gift annuities, planned giving, and complex gifts.
She has sat at all sides of the table from a seasoned Board member, including Board chair roles; volunteer roles; to multiple staff leadership positions in small, middle, and large organizations.
Maryellen is an experienced fundraiser with a demonstrated history of working with high net worth individuals, family offices, private and public foundations, and large and small nonprofits. Maryellen spent her early career teaching in the university setting after attaining her PhD focused in English.
