Last week the NH community lost a truly remarkable and thoughtful leader who worked tirelessly on numerous nonprofit boards and supported many charitable causes, Gary Long former President and CEO of PSNH.

Gary walked the talk when it came to volunteerism and civic leadership. Throughout his leadership tenure with PSNH, he enthusiastically encouraged all PSNH employees to actively engage in giving back to their community and made volunteerism a credo of the company. I recall being a speaker for one of the many yearly PSNH employee recognition days and noticing that Gary was present for the full day, never looking at a cell phone and sitting, not on state but with the employees and fully immersed in the days discussion and spirit.

I remember asking him, “How do you keep your energy going during these really challenging times?” After he laughed he explained that he charges himself up at PSNH every day and then he thoughtfully said, “I love NH and I love being part of a dynamic time and we always need to make time for volunteering.”

Our hearts go out to the Long family as we offer our sincere condolences as we honor Gary’s legacy.

Sincerely,

Mary Ellen Jackson
