Sector Steps Up to Say "No" to the BET

The NH nonprofit sector responded to Representative Hess' bill, HB 569, with vehement opposition at the Ways and Means Committee hearing on February 6.

The bill, with its proposed amendment, would levy the BET on tax-exempt nonprofits with program and business related revenues, less grants and contributions, of $10 million. Impacted organizations would include service organizations for low income and vulnerable populations as well as colleges and hospitals.

An opinion letter from the NH Center for Nonprofit's CEO, Mary Ellen Jackson, was profiled in the Concord Monitor.

Center members are encouraged to voice opposition to House Ways and Means Committee members through calls and emails this week.
