Peer Recovery Coach

Riverbend Community Mental Health

Founded in 1963, Riverbend Community Mental Health is a private, nonprofit organization providing specialized behavioral health services in central New Hampshire. Core services include 24/7 emergency mobile crisis services; counseling services for children, adults, and families; addiction treatment; and community support, vocational services, and residential programs for adults and seniors. Evidence-based models of treatment guide all our work, and we strongly believe in the power of self-directed growth and recovery.

Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based behavioral health services in New Hampshire, is seeking a full-time Peer Recovery Coach to join our CHOICES Addiction Recovery program team.

The Peer Recovery Coach supports clients through stages of change in the CHOICES program.  This position requires a person who is grounded in peer-assisted recovery.  Because of his/her life experience with substance use and/or other addictions, the Recovery Coach provides expertise that clinical training cannot replicate.  Recovery Coaches report to a Recovery Team Leader and the Clinical Manager and are fully integrated team members who provide psycho-education and recovery coaching.  Peer Recovery Coaches also provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which clients’ points of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and integrated into support, treatment, rehabilitation, and community-based recovery-oriented systems of care. This position also supports the CHOICES Medication Assisted Treatment program.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the MAT program by checking blood pressures and temperatures, as well as collecting urine samples for analysis in the lab.
  • Provide support to clients enrolled in CHOICES with recovery-oriented skills, activities of daily living, socialization, and community integration.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation which may involve visiting individuals in the Concord Hospital Emergency Department, responding after a medical issue related to substance use to provide treatment options and support.
  • Engage clients by sharing personal experience, ensuring that self-disclosure is always in support of the client’s needs.
  • Meet with clients prior to enrollment in program to educate and motivate for treatment.
  • Encourage hopefulness and motivation by sharing personal experiences of recovery.
  • Participate in the provision of services to people served by co-facilitating groups (in conjunction with clinical staff) to provide support for increased stability in their lives through recovery and a better understanding of their symptoms of relapse as well as symptoms of mental illness.
  • Report behavioral changes and concerns to the treatment team.
  • Participate in staff meetings and treatment planning or wellness planning review meetings.
  • Maintain healthy boundaries to ensure a high quality and safe therapeutic relationship with clients.
