GEAR UP Manchester Coordinator - Parkside Middle School
The New Hampshire College & University Council (NHCUC) is a non-profit consortium of 21, public and private institutions of higher education in the state of New Hampshire. These institutions are recognized and highly regarded for their outstanding teaching, research, and community service activities. They serve as major centers of activity that are vital to the economic development of the community and the state.
Campus Compact for New Hampshire (CCNH) connects campuses with their communities in ways that enhance students’ education while providing millions of dollars in service to those who need it most. Together with our member colleges and universities, we work to ensure that students graduate with the skills and knowledge not only to succeed in today’s workforce but also to address society’s most pressing issues.
GEAR UP Manchester is seeking four GEAR UP Coordinators to serve at 4 middle schools in Manchester, NH.
GEAR UP – Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs is a discretionary grant program from the United States Department of Education that provides funding for academic and related support services to eligible low-income students, including students with disabilities and English learners, to help them to obtain a secondary school diploma and to prepare for and succeed in postsecondary education.
This Federal grant program is designed to help students prepare for and succeed after high school. Students will receive services ranging from academic support, career exploration, and college planning. The program will serve nearly 2,000 students at all four Manchester middle schools and will follow the current 6th and 7th graders through their first year in college.
GEAR UP Manchester will place GEAR UP Coordinators at each of the four Manchester middle schools. Coordinators will follow the cohort students to their respective high schools as they transition to high school.
The minimum qualifications to be considered for a GEAR UP Coordinator are: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling or related field required; Master’s degree preferred; at least three years of training or experience in counseling secondary school students or programming experience with students required; knowledge of NH resources for students and counselors; direct experience working with underrepresented students; excellent oral and written skills required along with outstanding interpersonal skills; proficiency with data base management and report writing.
We are seeking candidates that interact effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, parents and partners.
