Director of Development

NH Humane Society

New Hampshire Humane Society is a private animal welfare organization located in Laconia, New Hampshire providing shelter, care and comfort to over 1,300 animals annually. The animal shelter has been in operation continuously since 1907 and is dedicated to caring for companion animals providing safe harbor, behavioral and medical rehabilitation and ultimately a loving forever home. The agency is funded entirely by donations from private donors and businesses that are aligned with the mission. 

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all fundraising activities including annual appeals, special events, donor cultivation and recognition.  The Director works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.


·        Passion for the mission of the New Hampshire Humane Society

·        Exceptional interpersonal, verbal communication and writing skills

·        Ability to collaborate with and motivate staff, volunteers, Trustees, donors

·        Agility at building community relationships

·        Exceptional personal organizational skills

·        Comfort with public speaking

·        Experience supervising direct reports

·        Minimum of a bachelor’s degree

·        Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in development


·        Identify, cultivate  and solicit new donors

·        Steward current donors

·        Strengthen donor recognition

·        Plan and coordinate a special events program

·        Plan and implement annual appeals

·        Develop planned giving program

·        Participate in community organizations (i.e., Chamber of Commerce, service clubs)

·        Prepare annual report to the community

·        Oversee fundraising database management

·        Participate as member of Senior Management Team

·        Other activities as assigned by the Executive Director
