NH Public Health Association

The New Hampshire Public Health Association (NHPHA) is a mission-driven nonprofit serving public health professionals and stakeholders across the state through its advocacy, awareness, and professional development work.  NHPHA was established in 1990 and legally incorporated in 1992 as a 501c(3) private, not-for-profit organization, and in January 2004, declared 501c(3)(h) status. 

Our Mission is to help strengthen the state's public health system to improve health, prevent disease, and reduce costs for all. 

NHPHA strives to:

  • bring together people interested in public health, and provides a forum for the exchange of public health information;
  • speak on public health issues with a voice that is manifestly separate and distinct from the State Government;
  • aid in identifying public health problems within the State;
  • inform the citizenry of changes needed in the laws and government in order to improve public health;
  • educate members of the New Hampshire legislature, executive branch, courts, cities and towns, federal government and others on matters pertaining to public health;
  • promote education in the public health field.

 We hold the following values to be true, guiding the core of our work:

  • Public health's central focus is on the health of the population and the environment, ensuring healthy people in healthy communities.
  • Public health programs and policies must be evidence-based.
  • Public health's primary focus is on health promotion and disease and injury prevention.
  • Public health recognizes the social and biological determinants of health, and the right of all people to optimum health.
  • The public's health requires the ongoing collaboration of public and private entities, interdisciplinary teams, and the involvement of all segments of the public.

NHPHA also serves as the fiscal agent to the NH Oral Health Coalition.

Supports New Hampshire Public Health Association by providing confidential administrative, data, event, and communication support activities to the NHPHA Board of Directors, leadership, and committees. Acts independently to ensure smooth office operations. Delivers project support in a timely and accurate fashion. Has demonstrated career focus as an administrative and data management professional. 24 hour per week position.

  • An associate or baccalaureate degree;
  • 1 to 3 years administrative support experience with an administrative career path;
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment within generally defined practices and policies;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects;
  • Strong written and verbal skills; and
  • Demonstrated competency with PC skills and applications including Microsoft Office Suite, database management, Google applications, and Constant Contact; as well as WordPress-style web-site application, webinar and conference call technology.

The Program Assistant is expected to:

  • manage member database to track and process all new and renewing memberships;
  • handle meeting logistics, meeting minutes and follow-up communications;
  • coordinate registrations and logistics for NHPHA’s Fall Forum and Annual Meeting;
  • create and update electronic and print communication tools including distribution lists for email, newsletters, etc.;
  • coordinate preparation and distribution of the monthly NHPHA e- newsletter, and weekly Health in All Policies e-newsletter during the legislative session;
  • monitor and update legislative bill tracking.
  • support other content-related committee work, as workload allows;
  • participate in intra-office proof-reading and editing;
  • manage materials preparation and distribution including copies, materials, packets, electronic and print mailings; and
  • manage general office operations, such as mail, filing, minor IT troubleshooting, ordering supplies, etc.
