Director of Psychiatric Emergency Services

Core services include 24/7 emergency mobile crisis services; counseling services for children, adults, and families; addiction treatment; and community support, vocational services, and residential programs for adults and seniors. Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based mental health services in New Hampshire, is seeking a full-time Director of Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) to provide oversight and leadership to all psychiatric emergency services departments.The Director would be responsible for administratively overseeing the operations of hospital-based Emergency Services, Mobile Crisis Services, and the Riverbend Crisis Apartments. The Director assures effective coordination of psychiatric emergency services within the agency as well as the Concord Hospital Emergency Department and inpatient unit, and other key community agencies including the Concord Police Department, Concord Fire/EMS and additional vested stakeholders. Candidates should have strong clinical and administrative skills, experience with the NH community mental health system, and be interested in taking an active role in staff development.  Computer literacy and excellent communication skills are essential.

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related Human Services field is required.
  • Current NH license or ability to be licensed, as a LICSW, LCMHC or Psychologist is required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in behavioral health service provision, including three (3) years in providing crisis emergency services in hospital/mobile settings is preferred.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance or access to a reasonable alternative is required. 
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, organizational, communication, and planning skills is required.
  • Lead, develop and manage all aspects of Riverbend’s Psychiatric Emergency Services, including hospital-based Emergency Services, Mobile Crisis Services, and the Riverbend Crisis Apartments, including budget development and fiscal management, program planning and coordination, and staff recruiting.
  • Participate in state and local planning processes to expand and promote access to services and strengthen agency position in the system of care.
  • Ensure quality of care by assuring staff receive ongoing training and supervision, regular performance evaluations, and promoting a work environment in which staff are supported and held accountable for performance.
  • Oversee creation of policies and procedures for existing/future services provided by PES.
  • Increase public awareness and support of program services via marketing and sustaining strong working partnerships with the community and other agencies.
  • Monitor ongoing licensing needs pertaining to the Riverbend Crisis Apartments and ensure timely documentation of services and adherence to all applicable State, Federal and payor regulations or standards. 
  • Work closely with other Program Directors in the agency to promote client access between programs using effective communication.
