Patient Financial Counselor

The purpose of this Financial Counselor Representative position is to acknowledge the importance of patients and their families while resolving inquiries, perform collection of revenue from the patients, and actively performing financial assistance duties. The position consists of patient estimation, collections, while providing excellent customer service to all those served. Patient accounts must be reviewed and processed in accordance with departmental processes guideline, along with state and federal regulations.
 
Job Relationship:

1.Responsible to the Director of Revenue Integrity
Responsibilities and Abilities::

1.Screen patient for the ability to pay
2.Produces estimates on services for patients as the present; collect on any out of pocket expenses
3.Collects from patient when identified balances are due; Pre-service, Current A/R or BD
4.Completes the full process of Financial Assistance; educates patient, provides information to patient, calculates, notes account accordingly, provides patient with approval/denial letter and adjusts account accordingly as outline by department procedure
5.Set up payment plans according to facility guidelines; payment plan 
6.Manage high volumes of incoming face-to-face traffic with patients and customers
7.Manage a high volumes of incoming and outgoing calls in a timely manner
8.Responds to all patient calls and inquiries in a timely and professional manner
9.Identify patient's needs, clarify information, research issues and provide solutions and/or alternatives
10.Demonstrates the ability to access and utilize current patient account systems/functions and/or other PC applications to complete responsibilities.
11.Completes assignments responsibilities within standard time frame, meeting department requirements
12.Maintains work queue within financial software, including but not limited to the accounts receivable billing system
13.Assists with bad debt and early files, as requested upon
14.Demonstrates the ability to access payor web-sites for work related duties
15.Remains informed to comply with updates and revisions related to billing & patient access
16.Appropriately documents within accounts receivable system(s)
17.Maintain and edit patient accounts based on accurate information defined, gathered and validated
18.Ability to access and generate letters patients from the collection letter file for necessary action or additional information needed regarding patient account for proper handling
19.Researches accounts for missing or invalid information and makes necessary changes
20.Forwards identified self-pay credit balances to appropriate Follow-Up Billing Representative
21.Reports variances and inaccuracies to immediate supervisor, as needed
