Upper Valley Haven Appoints Crotched Mountain Foundation Executive as its Next Executive Director

Michael Redmond will join the Upper Valley Haven as its next Executive Director on October 15th. Michael will succeed Sara Kobylenski, Executive Director of the Haven for nearly 10 years, who announced in September 2017 her plan to retire from the Haven in the fall of 2018.

Michael comes to the Haven after nearly 20 years at the Crotched Mountain Foundation in Greenfield, New Hampshire where he served as Vice President for Advancement, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer, among other roles. Prior to his time at the Crotched Mountain Foundation, Michael held leadership positions at nonprofit organizations in New York. Michael’s career has been grounded in care-based organizations serving diverse communities, individuals, and families in need.

Sarah Miles and Tim van Leer, co-chairs of the committee that conducted a national search for the Haven’s next executive director, indicated that Michael was the unanimous choice of the committee and his selection was approved unanimously by the Haven’s Board of Directors: “From the beginning, our search committee was impressed by Michael’s experience, proven leadership capabilities, and accomplishments at the Crotched Mountain Foundation. As we got to know him, it became clear that he personally connects to the mission of the Haven and our commitment to the community, embraces our strong culture, and can lead us forward in important ways.”

According to Merritt Patridge, President of the Board of Directors of the Upper Valley Haven, “we are excited to welcome Michael to the Haven community to build on the Haven’s accomplishments of the past decade under Sara’s leadership. The Haven is a community organization that thrives through the support and partnership of individuals and groups throughout the Upper Valley. Michael’s thoughtful leadership style and collaborative approach will help us together create new opportunities and help us achieve even better outcomes for those living in poverty in the Upper Valley.”

The Upper Valley Haven offers support for individuals and families struggling with poverty through four domains of service: Food, Shelter, Education and Problem Solving. The Haven is open 365 days per year, never charges for any of its services and serves over 14,500 people per year.

Michael says, “I'm honored and grateful to the Board of Directors for selecting me to lead this exceptional organization. Every day, the Haven opens its doors to offer food, shelter, education, and counseling to those in need, serving not only our guests, but also our broader community. Its impact is far-reaching and profound. I look forward to the opportunity to join the Haven’s impressive staff, volunteers, and supporters in the Haven’s mission and essential services.”

Sara Kobylenski will join The Couch Family Foundation, helping to lead a new initiative that realigns its giving practices to better address the well-being of children holistically in three broad areas: early education, health care and child and family services.
