Take Me to Provocative Theatre! Yellow Taxi Productions (YTP) is a unique theatre company in southern New Hampshire for three reasons:
1) we consistently develop and champion new work 2) we hire professional artists to work alongside our local talented actors and directors, and 3) we take chances on producing challenging work that is little known outside of major cities.
"As
a brand new writer, living in New Hampshire, I never thought I'd have
the opportunity to see my work performed on stage. It is great to not
have to travel to New York or Boston to see first-rate, provocative theater. Yellow Taxi has brought this right to Nashua." – Deb Matson, Nashua.
Besides producing provocative adult professional theatre YTP has
expanded its mission to include cultivating an appreciation and mastery
of the performing arts through various educational programs, including
teaching summer programs in Nashua, playwriting in Derry, and providing
training and classes for our company of local actors. In addition,
YTP has been recognized by the New Hampshire Theater Awards with nine
wins over five years, New Hampshire Magazine's Editor's Pick (2003
"Best New Theater on the Edge") and The Hippo Press (Show of the Year
for Odd Man Out 2005). Yellow Taxi looks for ways to
collaborate with local non-profits and City organizations to bring
once-in-a-lifetime theatrical events to southern New Hampshire. YTP has
partnered with Nashua Parks and Recreation Department to offer
free Theater in the Park (Proof 2004, The Drawer Boy 2005, john &
jen 2006), and in 2006 with the Hunt Memorial Building in Nashua to
gain performance and rehearsal space (For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again and The Countess).
"Working with YTP has given me the opportunity to explore and challenge
my craft as an actor, teacher and artist. I have always been impressed
with Yellow Taxi's professionalism and commitment to producing challenging, thought-provoking and entertaining theatre." – JJ Area, Washington, DC
In 2007, YTP is celebrating our fifth year producing professional
theatre with an anniversary party on March 24th at the Nashua
Marriott. The theme is "Martini Madness" and local singers Barbara
Lawlor, Yolanda Farina, and Tajoura Davis will entertain the
guests. In addition, YTP will be thanking Dr. David G. Stahl of
Manchester for his continuing support of the arts in southern NH and
Lowell Williams of Nashua for his artistic achievements with YTP as their Playwright-in-Residence.
Lowell Williams' newest work will be Yellow Taxi's May production.
Williams' writing focuses on NH stories and his latest Six Nights in
the Black Belt: The Jonathan Daniels Story is no different. Jonathan
Daniels was a Keene, NH native who answered Dr. Martin Luther King's
call to help with voter registration in Alabama and Daniels, an
Episcopalian Junior Priest, was murdered in August 1965 while trying to
buy a soda with two young black women. This moving portrait of Daniels
and his friendship with Stokley Carmichael will premiere May 4-12 at
the 14 Court Street Theatre in downtown Nashua. It is sponsored by the
Foundation for Contemporary Arts and the Tenth Anniversary committee of
the Rivier Institute for Senior Education. YTP wil be showing Keene
State College professor Larry Benaquist's documentary about Daniels on=
May 6th and the filmmaker and other professors will be available to
answer questions about the time period. Yellow Taxi
Productions' vision is to sustain an artistic environment by exposing
and educating audiences to challenging and unique contemporary
theatrical experiences and we hope you will join us in this adventure. For more information about us, please go to www.yellowtaxiproductions.org |
