number of exciting programs provided by the Seacoast Mental Health

The New Heights-Adventures for Teens program, providing a wide range
of youth after-school and summer programming was featured on Channel
9's NH Chronicle in June. Director of Elder Services, Lucille Karatzas,
was a recent guest on New Hampshire Public Radio and described the wide
range of service the agency offers for seniors.
The Seacoast Mental Health Center, Inc. (SMHC) located in Exeter and Portsmouth, N.H. is a private, not-for-profit agency, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Located in Exeter and Portsmouth NH and serving the entire seacoast region of southern NH, The Seacoast Mental Health Center, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in 1963. The mission of Seacoast Mental Health Center is to provide a broad comprehensive array of high quality, effective and accessible mental health services to residents of the Seacoast area. The organization offers a wide range of services including; psychiatry, counseling, and psychological services. Programs and services at SMHC include: Child, Adolescent & Family Services, New Heights, Adult Outpatient Program, Bipolar Support Group, Elder Services, and Center for Learning & Attention Disorders, Psychiatry, Assessment and Crisis Team, Community Support Program, Community Bridges and Supported Employment. In the year 2006 alone the Elder Services program reached 3,478 older adults throughout the state,
including 399 from eastern Rockingham County. SMHC's Center for
Learning & Attention Disorders helped 410 consumers address the
problems they were having in the home, school, or workplace
environment. The Assessment and Crisis Team, which is available around
the clock, seven days a week, saw, 1,155 people for emergency visits
and their Supported Employment program SMHC helped 16% of their
Community Support program's clients find meaningful, rewarding
employment. SMHC's Executive Director, Geraldine “Jay”
Couture, served as SMHC’s Associate Director for nine years, and
doubled as Interim Director of the center’s Child, Adolescent and
Family Services before being appointed to her current position in April
2002. Jay also serves as the Vice President of the New
Hampshire Community Behavioral Health Association, and is a past Board
Treasurer of the Behavioral Health Network. The Seacoast
Mental Health Center accepts most major insurances and offers a sliding
fee scale for those consumers living in eastern Rockingham County. |
