MWVATS was founded in 2008 as a grassroots organization in order to meet the overwhelming need for substance abuse treatment in Mt. Washington Valley and western Maine.  We will provide an intensive outpatient treatment program that will allow individuals to stay at home and work while participating in substance abuse treatment.  Services provided will include primarily an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), outpatient individual, family or group therapy, acupuncture detoxification, and stress management.  MWVATS will provide non-medical, non-residential integrated services to individuals & family members who are affected by substance abuse.  Our clientele will range from the addict to family or friends who are impacted by substance abuse.  We will initially provide treatment for adults over the age of 18.  However it is our hope to expand our services to adolescents within the second year of our operations. We began offering services in May 2008. 
MWVATS philosophy is that substance abuse treatment should be built upon a holistic model that will rebuild relations between the individual and himself or herself, the family and the community.  Abstinence is not required for treatment but will be a goal of treatment.  We will utilize standard and optional alternative therapies in order to address the needs of the whole individual and/or family. It is our intention to build a recovery community that will offer access to mentorship, family activities, prevention services and nutritional counseling.  It our hope that MWVATS will be a very active resource providing a full range of treatment and prevention services for our families, our schools and our communities who are suffering from the direct effects of addiction.  We recently received a grant from the NH Charitable Foundation for Strategic Planning.  We are continuing to plan other fundraising events in order to subsidized the cost of operations and treatment.
