 Horse Power

Horse Power Leads the way in bringing excellence to the art of therapeutic horsemanship and human interaction with other farm animals. We build courage, hope and self-confidence in order to help individual young people and adults cope with whatever physical, emotional or learning challenges they may face in their lives. This is done through our local programs and our nationally recognized instructor training school. Participants in our local programs come from over twenty local communities in the Monadnock region, and instructor trainees come from throughout the nation and internationally, as aspiring instructors seek a site to achieve their NARHA Instructor Certification. Each participant understands there is dignity in risk and is committed to helping others achieve personal growth.

In addition to therapeutic riding, we also have a driving program and provide instruction in relation to that activity as well as through clinics and special programs. Currently we are expanding our mission to include instructional and production gardening, farm-based education programs for nearby school children, while undertaking several initiatives to lessen our carbon footprint with a manure composting project, nutrient dense gardening, and the production and use of biochar to enhance the fertility of our soil and to combat global warming.

Horse Power was launched in 1989, so is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary, with a special remembrance and look ahead to be held on Sunday, September 20. We are especially proud and excited about our existing and expanding programs, such as Barnyard Buddies, Animal Ambassadors, Gardening for Good, Colonial Connections and Horses for Heroes – a new program to benefit and appreciate our veterans and their families. All of these programs are designed to increase people’s relationship with animals, with the earth and with one another.

People are welcome to visit the farm to see in person the work that is going on here and the supportive atmosphere and staff we have created for the benefit of those we serve. We have a website at www.horsepower.com, and inquiries may be addressed to the Founder and Owner, Isabella (Boo) Martin at 603 321-5255 or Terri Devlin, the Program Director for Horse Power at 603 654-6038.
