ElderPet began in the early 1980's as a
sevice project for faculty and students in the Applied Animal Science
Department of the Thompson School of Applied Science at UNH. In 2003 it
became a 501c(3) nonprofit organization. The overall mission of
ElderPet is to facilitate the human/animal bond with the elderly,
people with disabilities, hospice families, and patients of health
care facilities.
Toward that purpose ElderPet:
- Provides pet-related services for elderly, handicapped, and hospice families.
- Provides Pet Partners Program volunteer training for animal assisted activities and therapy.
- Provides
training for health care professionals and human service providers who
wish to incorporate quality animal assisted therapy in to their
practices.
- Is open to promoting and/or conducting research, writing and scientific exploration within the realm of the human/animal bond.
- Provides animal assisted activities and therapy to institutions and facilities through our registered Pet Partner® members.
ElderPet is in the process of establishing a chapter in the Keene area. ElderPet is a Delta Society Affiliate Organization (www.deltasociety.org)
