 The NH Nonprofit Capacity Building Project (NCBP) is designed to strengthen the capacity of faith and community-based nonprofit organizations located in the southern region of Congressional District Two that provide services which help low-income families address a broad range of barriers to employment, increase family stability, and gain economic security.

Project Information
Number and Type of Organization Eligible to Participate
Up to 30 faith and community-based nonprofit organizations will have the opportunity to participate. In order to be eligible, organizations must directly engage low-income individuals and families in services which help them gain economic stability (such as family support, health care, mental health care, nutrition education, child care, job seeking, job training, food and shelter, etc.).
Outcomes Anticipated for Participating Organizations:
It is anticipated that, at the conclusion of the program, organizations involved will report:
- Improved capacity of the Board of Directors to govern and guide the organization
- Enhanced internal systems and processes
- Improved capacity to engage in collaborative projects and grant opportunities
- Improved marketing strategies
- Increased engagement by board and staff in fundraising
- Improved skill in developing effective fiscal reports and business plans
- Increased capacity to navigate critical junctures
- Enhanced ability to serve low-income individuals
Organizations selected will be engaged in variety of FREE training opportunities, valued at more than $7,200. The activities will be tailored to the needs of the participants. Some of the organizations will also receive one-on-one technical assistance. The types of programs to be offered include:
- Board Governance Seminars for board and executive leaders
- Fundraising Training
- Grant Writing Workshops
- Executive Leadership Peer Groups
- Board Chair Roundtables
- Skill Building workshops on a variety of management, financial, and technical topics
- Program Assessment Training
- One-on-one Technical assistance
Once enrolled, organizations will participate in one of two cohorts, based on their size and needs for capacity building. All participants will be invited to participate in a number of skill building workshops each year, a full-day conference on fundraising and board governance, a peer executive circle, a board chair-focused seminar, and quarterly roundtables for interested board members.
Members of Cohort One will also receive 12 hours of one-on-one technical assistance from skilled nonprofit experts on an issue or need pertinent to their organization. It is anticipated that either a board or staff leader or volunteer will participate in one 3-hour training a month.
The program will focus on building the leadership, management and technical skills of the board and staff leaders directing faith and community-organizations. To participate, organizations must:
- Be governed by an active Boards of Directors, led by an Executive Director (paid or volunteer), and have in-place staff or volunteers who provide services.
- Be able to demonstrate a history of service delivery for low-income individuals and families for a minimum of three years
- Be able to identify their needs for the capacity-building services to be provided (board governance training, leadership resources, peer support, grant development assistance, fundraising training, strategic planning education, etc.).
- Those eligible must also demonstrate that they are highly connected to the communities they serve and are active collaborators within their region.
