HB 1479, a bill aimed at prohibiting local officials from advocating or engaging in the legislative process, has received growing opposition from nonprofit leaders. As written, the bill would limit the rights of nonprofits to engage in lobbying activities if they receive state funds and would expose them to additional costs and criminal penalties for doing so.

“In a state like New Hampshire, where the nonprofit sector takes on essential services on behalf of government for the health and welfare of NH communities, HB 1479 could undermine sharing important data and best practices that inform our state's most critical policies,” noted CEO Kathleen Reardon in a statement to the House Legislative Administration Committee.

The NH Center for Nonprofits urges nonprofit leaders to call their Representatives and urge their opposition to HB 1479 before the House floor vote this Thursday, March 14.
