Property Tax Exemption Filing Requirements

Two bills proposed in the House would allow nonprofits to file a late application for a property tax exemption as long as application and approval are made prior to approval of the tax rate for that year. 

HB 1055, from Representative Macdonald (R-Wolfeboro Falls) proposes this accommodation if the application is late due to accident, mistake or misfortune. HB 1317 from Representative McGuire (R- Epsom) proposes a similar opportunity but adds the ability of municipalities to charge organizations a late fee of $50 per week. 

The NH Center for Nonprofits supports HB 1055 and opposes the late fees.
