About the Organization

David Krempels Brain Injury Center (KBIC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing community-based programming for survivors of acquired brain injury (ABI). KBIC offers a supportive, inclusive, and vibrant community for survivors of ABI to reinvent their lives post-brain injury. Our evidence-based, innovative programming is geared toward the unique and varied needs of brain injury survivors. Services are offered online and in Portsmouth, NH, and are designed to improve the quality of life of those living with the chronic effects of brain injury.

At KBIC, we focus on our member participants' strengths, responding to their changing needs and providing encouragement and support as they reinvent their lives post-injury. We support our members' right to self-determination in developing their own goals and making their own choices and create an environment that is rich with opportunities for social connection and support. The KBIC community is characterized by a deep and abiding respect for each individual, with the goal of helping each person achieve their maximum potential and satisfaction with life.

KBIC services are not funded through a traditional insurance model. Thus, success is not measured by productivity, but by evidence-based interventions, program outcomes, and solicited feedback from our participants—who we call members. Member self-determination, the ability to address members’ real-life needs over time and in a non-medical milieu, and a welcoming and supportive community are hallmarks of our program.
