Peabody Mill Environmental Center Receives Over $10K in Energy Efficiency Rebates Amherst, NH - Simply by practicing what they teach, the Peabody Mill Environmental Center lowered its electric bill and got paid to do it. Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH) presented the Peabody Mill Environmental Center with over $10,000 in rebates that it had earned for the significant energy-efficient improvements recently made to its facility.
The Peabody Mill Environmental Center is a community environmental and nature education center owned and operated by the Town of Amherst. It recently completed the installation of energy-efficient lighting and a geothermal heating system, which will also be used as an educational tool.
Len Gerzon, who works in PSNH's property tax department, is a board member at the Environmental Center and has been a strong supporter of the project. “The building is symbolic of our educational mission,” he said. "It sends a powerful message, they don’t just teach it, they live it.”
PSNH estimates that the improvements will result in close to $800 in annual energy savings, along with associated reductions in power plant emissions.
PSNH and the Peabody Mill Environmental Center have a strategic partnership to meet the increasing interest in information on energy conservation and the environment. A component of the partnership has been the development of an energy-efficiency educational program, which combines environmental education and energy-efficiency to address global climate change challenges. In 2007, PSNH awarded the Peabody Mill Environmental Center a $10,000 grant that was used to assist with the design of the program.
PSNH is New Hampshire's largest electric utility, generating and distributing clean electricity for more than 490,000 homes and businesses in an environmentally friendly manner. Each year, PSNH supports dozens of forest protection, energy conservation, and environmental organizations through both financial contributions and generous employee volunteerism. PSNH is proud if its commitment to the environment and willingness to create innovative solutions to environmental issues.
