Durham, NH – On Belay received a gift of $2520.00 from The Boston Bruins Foundation to underwrite the development of a Family Day program over the next year. The Family Day program is an opportunity to bring the families we serve together to celebrate their children, their successes and the fight against cancer.
With volunteers support, including volunteers from The Bruins Foundation, this program will provide children and their parents the opportunity to bond, celebrate and strengthen their relationships with each other and supportive community who understand the challenges of dealing with a cancer diagnosis in the family.
The day long program model uses adventure activities such as rock climbing and high ropes course work to create a metaphor for participants and their parents teaching them if they can figure a way through these challenges they can overcome anything. Families will connect with other families with other families who are dealing with the same challenges, find strength in themselves and to build a community of support to rely on.
Empowered by their experience at On Belay, families can return to challenging situations at home with bolstered confidence and new skills to tackle whatever problems they encounter.
On Belay provides unique adventure based programs that build community among children 9-19 who have or have had a family member with cancer. The program serves children from throughout New Hampshire, Southern Maine, Northern Massachusetts and Vermont. On Belay programs are free for all participants thanks for generous community support.
