 New Hampshire Political Library Elects Board Officers

Concord, NH - The New Hampshire Political Library recently elected new officers to lead the organization’s Board of Directors.  With unanimous support from the Board, the following individuals were elected to leadership positions:

Chair: Terry Shumaker, Shareholder, Bernstein Shur
Vice Chair: George Hagerty, President, Franklin Pierce University
Secretary: Jeff Bartlett, President and General Manager, WMUR-TV
Treasurer: Marie McKay, Managing Principal, Bigelow & Company CPA, P.C.

As a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization promoting the political traditions of New Hampshire, the Political Library is proud of the bipartisan group elected to lead the organization during an important time of growth and future success.   Terry Shumaker

Terry Shumaker is an attorney and mediator with Bernstein Shur in Manchester.  He previously served as United States Ambassador to Trinidad, as Executive Director of the National Education Association of NH and as a member of the Democratic National Committee.  Shumaker’s involvement in the New Hampshire Primary dates back to 1968.  He was a founding Board Member of the Political Library.

George Hagerty has served as president of Franklin Pierce since his appointment by the Board of Trustees in May of 1995.  During his tenure, the College achieved university status in 2007 and has experienced historic enrollment growth while strengthening the student profile.  President Hagerty led the community's first comprehensive capital campaign, successfully completing the initiative one year early and exceeding the fund-raising goal by forty percent.  Hagerty has served on the Board of Directors since the Political Library’s founding in 1997.  

Jeff BartlettJeff Bartlett has been President and General Manager of Hearst-Argyle owned WMUR-TV in Manchester, New Hampshire since February of 2001.  WMUR is well known nationally for its coverage of the New Hampshire Primary.  In the spring of 2008 the station won a New England Emmy Award for Continuing Coverage for its work on the 2008 primary.  During his tenure, WMUR.com has become the leading source for New Hampshire news on the internet.  Bartlett has served on the Board of Directors since 2005.  

Marie McKayMarie McKay is a Certified Public Accountant and the Managing Principal of Bigelow & Company CPA, P.C.  She has extensive experience in audit and accounting service, tax planning and compliance, and management and IT consulting, and she specializes in working with privately owned businesses in a wide variety of industries.  McKay has served on the Board of Directors since overseeing the Political Library’s acquisition of Kids Voting New Hampshire in 2007. 

“We are honored to have such dedicated, forward-thinking and supportive individuals to lead the organization’s Board of Directors,” says President and CEO Michael P. Chaney.  “These volunteers will support the Political Library’s efforts to advocate successfully on behalf of the New Hampshire primary and teach the political traditions of the Granite State to future voters.”

The New Hampshire Political Library is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization working to increase civic engagement in the democratic process by promoting and preserving the state's unique political traditions and ensuring these traditions are passed on to future generations.  The Political Library offers onsite educational programs and tours for students and the public at the Pierce Manse and administers Kids Voting New Hampshire programs in communities across the Granite State. 

The Political Library also maintains the only comprehensive collection of election campaign papers and memorabilia from over half a century and provides forums for voters and community leaders to meet Presidential candidates.
