Nashua, NH - NH Gateway Chapter of the American Red Cross Announces Awarded Grants from The Hunt Foundation and The Cogswell Benevolent Trust for Disaster Relief Operations.
Since the 2008 Ice Storm the chapter has begun to retool its Disaster Relief services to be better prepared when a large scale disaster strikes. As the only non-government agency that is incorporated into the Federal Emergency Response Plan, the American Red Cross is bound by a congressional charter to help people prepare for and respond to emergencies. Red Cross volunteers respond within two hours of any disaster, whether it is a small single family fire or an ice storm that knocks out power throughout of the state.
The NH Gateway Chapter of the American Red Cross was recently awarded two grants in the total amount of $12,265 for Disaster Relief preparedness. The Samuel P. Hunt Foundation granted $7,379 to purchase a Disaster Assistance Response Trailer. Pre-positioned in the eastern Windham, Pelham or Salem it will enable the Chapter to respond immediately in those communities. The Cogswell Benevolent Trust granted $4,886.44 to purchase materials such as: laptop computers, two way radios, GPS’s, Emergency Responder Kits and more to help the chapter’s capacity in all of its jurisdiction.
