Piscataqua Savings Bank Renews Support for Families First

Portsmouth, NH – Piscataqua Savings Bank recently awarded $10,000 to Families First Health and Support Center to support the expansion of mobile dental services for the homeless.

The new mobile dental program builds on Families First’s experience over the past seven years in providing both mobile health care for the homeless, and dental care on-site at Families First community health center. A mobile dental team (dentist, dental assistant and hygienist) will go out once a week to provide dental services at Cross Roads House and other sites convenient for homeless people.

“Homeless people face cost, logistical and many other barriers to receiving care in a dental office, particularly preventive and non-emergency care,” says Families First Executive Director Helen Taft. “So we will use Piscataqua Savings Bank’s contribution to deliver dental care to homeless people where they are, in a manner that is sensitive to their particular needs and situation.”

Piscataqua Savings Bank, an independent community bank located in downtown Portsmouth since 1877, has donated a total of $90,000 to Families First since becoming a founding funder of its Dental Center in 2002.

In addition to dental care -- available to all children and teens as well as Families First medical patients of any age -- Families First provides primary care for people of all ages, prenatal care and parenting and family programs.
