 Boys & Girls Club Elects Officers and Board Members; Honors Volunteer Steven Densberger

Nashua, NH - At the Annual Meeting, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua welcomed new board members and officers and thanked departing board members for their service.  Board member Steven Densberger was recognized as the year’s most outstanding supporter of the Club with the coveted Man/Woman & Youth award, given each year to the person in the community who best exemplifies commitment to advancing the Club’s mission.  Densberger has been a board member for 18 years and has chaired several special event committees and donated hours to advancing the Club.

Several board members and staff were recognized for years of service to the Club, including board member Ned Beebe for 40 years and David Brassard for 15 years of service.  Brassard is currently a trustee of the Club’s endowment fund.  Board members recognized for 5 years of service were Andy James and Teresa Gartner. Staff member Marcia Brown was also recognized for 5 years of service.

Officers elected for 2008/09 are Maurice Simard, Jr., Chief Volunteer Officer (also referred to as “President”); Vice Presidents, Andy Dillman, David Elliott, and Todd Sullivan; Secretary, Sal Magnano; and Treasurer, Ken Sheldon. 

Board members are nominated from community members interested in the Club’s mission. This year’s new directors are Mark Adamske, Director, EqualLogic; J. Conrad (“Jay”) Coffey, EVP, The Coffey Insurance Agency; Craig Fitzgerald, Club alumnus and Dartmouth College student; Fouad Mahfuz, Persian Rug Galleries; and Deborah Millin, High Street Partners.

Among the meeting’s highlights were three members who discussed the Club’s impact on their lives. Lizmar Espinal spoke of her opportunities to participate in Toastmasters public speaking and college mentoring sessions, and to travel to Baltimore to attend a baseball training camp sponsored by the Cal Ripkin, Sr. Foundation.  Brandy Lopez spoke about the self confidence he has gained from his ten years at the Club and swim team participation.  Adhemar Espinal discussed how community service has made him a better person.  He has participated in beautification projects and is preparing to be a big brother in the Club’s collaboration with the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program.

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua annually serves 4,200 boys and girls ages 6 - 18 in six locations throughout Nashua, Merrimack, Litchfield and reaches another 10,000 youngsters in the community with a variety of programs and wholesome activities to build attitudes, skills, values and behaviors that enable youth to succeed in adulthood.  Called “The Positive Place For Kids,” the Club is staffed with professional, caring adults and is open to all children.  Membership is $15 a year and no child is turned away for inability to pay.  To help and to get information, visit www.bgcn.com or call Norm Bouthilette, CEO, at 883-0523, ext. 231.
