  McFarland to Head NH Healthy Kids
Concord, NH - Gretchen A. McFarland has been named as president and chief executive of the nonprofit New Hampshire Healthy Kids. NH Healthy Kids provides access to low-cost and free health coverage for New Hampshire's uninsured children and teens. McFarland succeeds Tricia Brooks, who was with NHHK since its founding in 1993 until she left earlier this year.

  The Corporate Fund Recognizes Two Nonprofits for Exceptional Management
Concord, NH – National Alliance on Mental Illness NH (NAMI NH) and New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA) have been named the 2008 recipients of The Corporate Fund Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management. NAMI NH is a statewide, grassroots network of affiliate chapters and support groups, staff and volunteers that provide information, education and support to all families and communities affected by mental illness. NHLA is a nonprofit law firm offering legal services in civil matters to seniors and eligible low-income persons.

  Manchester Community Access Media Offers Free Nonprofit Announcements
Many community TV channels use an electronic bulletin board to post nonprofit announcements.  At MCAM they have morning live call-in programs, during those shows, their hosts will read announcements and interview some of the principle organizers regarding nonprofit events or appeals.   Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association Breaks Ground on New Home
Concord, NH - Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association (CRVNA) officially broke ground today for a new 15,000sqf building on 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord.  The project is scheduled for completion in Spring  2009. CRVNA will move all its administrative offices currently at Concord Hospital to this new location.  CRVNA’s Hospice House will remain on the campus of Concord Hospital.

  Children's Museum of New Hampshire Receives $50,000 Leadership Donation from Unitil
Portsmouth NH  – Unitil Corporation has made a $50,000 donation to the “Imagine.Build.Grow” Campaign for the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire. With this leadership gift, Unitil has become the museum’s “Green Champion” for its role in supporting the museum’s efforts to use energy and materials in environmentally responsible ways, in both the building of the museum and its daily operations.

 Women's Fund of New Hampshire Awards $60,000 in Grants; Moves to New Offices in Concord
Concord, NH--On September 1, the Women's Fund of New Hampshire announced that grants totaling over $60,000 had been awarded to organizations working throughout the state to impact the lives of women and girls. According to Marianne Jones, executive director, the Women's Fund received twice as many applications for funding in this grant application round as for the same period in 2007.

 St. Mary's Bank Donates $1,000 to Consumer Credit Counseling Services
Manchester  - St. Mary's Bank recently gave $1,000 to Consumer Credit Counseling Services (CCCS) of New Hampshire and Vermont. The donation will be used to help cover the cost of reprinting the counseling organization’s brochures, which are requested on a weekly basis by other human services and non-profit organizations to distribute to their clients.

 Kearsarge Museum Announces New Executive Director
Warner, N.H. - The Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum (MKIM) in Warner, N.H. has hired Shawn Olson (Nakona/Wyandotte) as its new Executive Director.   Olson replaces Krista Katz who left in April to spend more time with her family.

 14th Annual Search Under Way for New Hampshire's Top Youth Volunteers
Do You Have Exceptional Youth Volunteers?
Over the past 13 years, Prudential Spirit of Community Awards have been given to more than 400 middle and high school students across New Hampshire for helping the less fortunate, promoting health and safety, protecting the environment, and serving their communities through many other volunteer activities. These awards, presented nationwide by Prudential Financial, Inc. in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), honor outstanding community service by young people in grades 5 through 12.

Young volunteers can apply online at www.prudential.com/spirit or at www.principals.org/prudential. Applications must be completed by October 31, 2008, then printed out, signed and submitted to a middle or high school principal, Girl Scout council, county 4-H agent, American Red Cross chapter, YMCA, or affiliate of HandsOn Network. Those without Internet access can get a paper version of the application form by calling 877-525-8491 toll-free.

 Coalition names new program director
Lisa Henderson recently returned as the program director of the Workforce Housing Coalition of the Greater Seacoast after 3½ years working for other community based ventures. Most recently, she served as associate director of Squamscott Community Commons, which is developing a community center and YMCA in Exeter to serve the larger region.

Prior to this, Henderson was senior deputy director of Fannie Mae's Northern New England Community Business Center where her main responsibility was to source affordable housing investment opportunities in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. She spent the nine years prior at The Housing Partnership, a nonprofit affordable housing developer based in Portsmouth, working in a variety of capacities from fundraising to workforce housing advocacy to serving as their interim director.
