 New Hampshire Legal Assistance Receives Grant
The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) has awarded New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA) a two-year grant of $540,000 to support its Domestic Violence Advocacy Project (DVAP). Working in partnership with several other statewide non-profits and local crisis centers, DVAP advocates address critical civil legal needs of low-income domestic and sexual violence victims in the State of New Hampshire. DVAP advocates provide direct representation to the most needy and vulnerable low-income victim/survivors in family law cases and also provide holistic representation to these clients in a wide range of civil legal issues, including housing, government benefits, bankruptcy, and immigration. The DVAP has been in operation since 1999.

 Nonprofit Leader Honored for Excellence in Nonprofits
Thirteen businesspeople were honored on October 27 at the New Hampshire Business Review's ninth annual Business Excellence Awards, which recognizes the efforts and achievements owners and operators of companies with 100 employees or fewer. Among the winners was Brian Young of the Nashua Center for the Multiply Handicapped who was honored for Excellence in Nonprofits. Also honored was Howard Brodsky of CCA Global Partners - who has worked closely with the Center for the past two years in the development of NonprofitNext. Mr. Brodsky was one of two inductees into the Business Excellence Hall of Fame.

 Entrepreneurs Foundation Announces AMP NH Grant Awards
Concord - The Entrepreneurs Foundation of New Hampshire (EFNH), an initiative of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, presented grant awards to ABI Innovation Hub and the New Hampshire Food Bank through their AMP NH grant program at an event held in Manchester at Dyn, Inc. Each organization received $5,000 and will gain access to the broad expertise and intellectual capital of EFNH members, who include representatives from the software, web-based, food production, energy, advanced materials and venture capital companies.

 New Hampshire Audubon’s Annual Awards Recognize Individual Conservation Efforts
Concord - New Hampshire Audubon (NHA) announced the winners of its 2011 Annual Awards at their Annual Meeting on October 8. The Tudor Richards Award was presented to Geoff Jones of Stoddard. The award recognizes an individual who has worked tirelessly and effectively for conservation in the Granite State. Geoff’s history of service is long and impressive. As longtime chair of the Conservation Commission, he organized Stoddard’s first-ever investment in land conservation. Under his guidance as Director of Land Management for the Society for the Protection of NH Forests, its lands were the first to be “green certified” for sustainable forestry practices in the state. Geoff is a forester who has gone beyond that deep connection to be a force for conservation and natural resource stewardship.

 New Hampshire Legal Assistance Receives Tillotson Grant
The Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation recently awarded New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA) a three-year grant of $200,000 to support its North Country operations. The funding will enable NHLA to continue to provide critical legal assistance to the most vulnerable North Country residents.

 NH Association for the Blind Awarded Grant
Concord - The Byrne Foundation recently awarded $5,900 to the New Hampshire Association for the Blind for the creation of a 7 minute high definition video that will clearly illustrate the types of vision rehabilitation services provided by the professional staff at the NH Association for the Blind. Blackfly Media of Portland, Me. has been selected to produce the video using the Association’s 100th year anniversary theme of “Living Better with Vision Loss”. The DVD will feature compelling testimonials from many of the clients who the Association has helped over the past few years. In the coming months the DVD will be used statewide at various service clubs, ophthalmic practices, medical offices, health fairs, libraries and other appropriate venues. The Association’s overriding goal as it enters its 100th year is to increase awareness about who we serve and what we do; sending the message that help is available.

 Lincoln Financial Foundation Supports Association for the Blind
Concord - The Lincoln Financial Foundation recently awarded $5,000 to the New Hampshire Association for the Blind for its vital peer support programs. Since 1996 the Association has found that group peer support is the most effective strategy to help people who are losing their sight or have lost their sight. The overall goal of the program is “to advance the independence of persons who are blind and visually impaired”; the Association’s mission for nearly 100 years. The group model is based upon sharing experiences, mutual respect and empathy. The Association offers Peer Support Groups in Concord, Portsmouth and Manchester. The groups are facilitated by counselors, clients and social work interns and made possible with the support of the Lincoln Financial Foundation.
