St. Joseph Community Services Named 2009 Champion in Action in Area of Hunger
Manchester, N.H. – Citizens Bank New Hampshire and WMUR-TV have named St. Joseph Community Services as their 2009 fourth quarter Champion in Action® in the area of hunger. As part of the award, the organization will receive a $25,000 grant, media coverage, and extensive promotional and volunteer support for its dedication to providing nutritious meals, health education, and social interaction opportunities for seniors and disabled adults throughout Hillsborough County. 3 Sector Leaders Honored by Business and Industry Association
The Business and Industry Association honored 3 nonprofit sector leaders at its annual dinner on November 4th. Lew Feldstein, president of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and Steve Reno, recently retired chancellor of the University System of New Hampshire, were presented with BIA Lifetime Achievement Awards. Easter Seals, represented by Executive Director Larry Gammon, was presented with the NH Advantage Award for a unique program that assists veterans, service members and their families.
Bonnie Clac Founder Retires
Robert Chambers, Bonnie Clac Co-Founder and President has announced his retirement. In an email he said, "I am very proud to have been Bonnie CLAC's founder, taking this fledgling idea from a one-room/one-person operation all the way to the White House. It is very satisfying to me that Bonnie CLAC's innovative program is finally getting the attention and recognition it richly deserves."
Nonprofit Leader Named to Corrections Post
New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner William L. Wrenn recently announced that Joseph Diament was sworn in as the Director of the Division of Community Corrections. Prior to accepting this position, Director Diament had been the Director of Programs and Administration for New Futures. He has also served as Director of the NH Division for Juvenile Justice Services as well as CEO of ODyssey House, Inc. The Division will oversee transitional and community-based programs and support for adult offenders who leave the state's prisons under probation or parole.

Children’s Museum of NH Receives $20,000 Federal Arts Jobs Grant
Dover - The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire has received a $20,000 grant that will help the museum continue its presentation of high-quality exhibits, workshops and performances to young children and families. The award-winning Dover museum is among 12 New Hampshire music, theater and visual arts and crafts organizations to receive Arts Jobs grants. The grants are paid for through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and distributed through the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.

Manchester - St. Mary’s Bank announced it recently gave $3,000 to the Presentation of Mary Academy’s (PMA) Technology Fund for the enhancement of their school computer lab. Located on 90 acres in Hudson, New Hampshire, PMA is a co-educational private Catholic institution for youth in pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. Dedicated to quality education, fostering self esteem and nurturing the uniqueness and talents of every student, it was founded in 1926 and is owned and operated by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary.

Dental Foundation awards eighth grant to Families First
Portsmouth –Northeast Delta Dental Foundation recently made its eighth grant to support dental care at Families First Health & Support Center. The $6,000 grant will help Families First purchase dental supplies for its on-site dental center and toothbrushes to give to children participating in Seacoast Healthy Grins, its school-based dental education, screening and cleaning program. Last year, Families First provided dental care for 1,500 people at the on-site center, while the school-based program screened 1,000 children and provided followup as needed.
Mental health center gets money to integrate primary care
These days it might almost seem the doctors and therapists are almost rolling in money at the Greater Nashua Mental Health Center at Community Council. They aren't, but this month the center received two grants to expand homeless prevention and mental health programs and a third, multimillion dollar grant to become one of 13 sites in the country trying to integrate physical health care into a behavioral health setting. The largest grant, $2 million over four years from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, will allow Community Council to staff a fully equipped exam room at its 7 Prospect St. facility and establish partnerships with primary care clinics and health centers in the area. “This is really exciting for us,” Dr. Hisham Hafez, Community Council's executive director and chief medical officer, said. “This is something we're very proud of and I think Nashua should be proud.”
