Hoffman Steps Up for Monadnock United Way

NH Charitable Foundation awards more than $9 million in first quarter 2011
Concord - The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation announced it made more than 1100 awards totaling $9.1 million in the first quarter of 2011. Nearly forty percent of the award dollars, totaling more than $3.5 million, were directed by donors through donor advised funds. The largest grouping of awards in the quarter – 451 grants totaling more than $1.7 million – came from funds established to benefit specific nonprofits. Granite United Way Announces Program Grants
The Board of Directors of Granite United Way recently approved $3.5 million in program grants for approximately 200 critical programs and initiatives throughout the organization's footprint in NH and Vermont. An additional $1.75 million in donor directed funds will be distributed to local community partners and through various initiatives and collaborations, including 2-1-1 NH and the City of Manchester's Homeless Services Center.

League of NH Craftsmen Announces Campaign Launch
Concord — The League of NH Craftsmen Board of Trustees has announced plans to launch a capital campaign to raise a minimum of $2,850,000 in funds for the League’s new craft education center and headquarters, which will be located on 49 South Main Street in Concord, opposite the Capitol Center for the Arts. The campaign, called Craft Our Future: A Commitment to Handcrafted Excellence, will provide funds for the League’s new facility, educational programming, technology, and endowment funding.

Park Theatre Awarded Grants
The Park Theatre has been awarded grants from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, through the Ruth and James Ewing Fund of the Monadnock Community Foundation, and by the Stannard & Dorothy Dunn Charitable Trust of Lyme, NH/Barbara Roby Trustee. The grants will go to the Jaffrey theatre's capital campaign.

Girls Incorporated of New Hampshire is a nonprofit organization that inspires and encourages all girls to live strong, smart and bold lives, has raised $161,346 through its annual auction, with a net increase from last year. The funds will go to support operations and programming.

New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence Names Andrea Yager to Board of Directors
The New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence has added Andrea Yager of Durham to its board of directors. Yager is currently a manager at Liberty Mutual Insurance where she began her career in 1997. She holds an MBA from the University of New Hampshire. Previously, she served as a volunteer and board member for Sexual Assault Support Services in Portsmouth. Andrea grew up in Freiburg, Germany, and is fluent in German and English with advanced proficiency in the French and Spanish languages. Read more...
McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center receives $400,000 Leadership Donation
The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord has received a $400,000 leadership donation from BAE Systems in Nashua. The funds will support the center's mission to encourage youth to learn about and explore careers in science, technology, math and engineering.
Easter Seals Receives $5,000.00 donation for Veterans Count Program
The hardships faced by service members and their families while the service member is deployed and during the lengthy transition back into civilian life are challenging and unique. Easter Seals Veterans Count provides emergency funding to services members and their families and a recent grant of $5,000 from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will support this effort. Mayhew Program receives $10,000 from Samuel P. Hunt Foundation
Bristol - The Samuel P. Hunt Foundation recently made a $10,000 grant to The Mayhew Program of Bristol, NH. The grant will help construct new summer staff housing on Mayhew Island. The current building was constructed in 1919 and has been the summertime home to hundreds of young men who came to the Island as counselors and kitchen staff. Kismet Rock Foundation Hires Executive Director
Kismet Rock Foundation is thrilled to welcome Alyssa Walker as executive director. A public educator for the past 10 years, Alyssa is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a BA in English Literature and an MAT from Tufts University. Alyssa has taught in Philadelphia, PA and most recently in Gorham, NH. In addition to teaching, Alyssa has also worked as a nonprofit grant writer, guided teenagers on month-long backpacking trips, and spent time learning Spanish. Alyssa lives in Jackson with her husband Brian Walker. She enjoys running, backpacking, hiking, skiing, and anything else in the outdoors.
Community Caregivers Inducts One New Board Member and Board Officers
Derry- Community Caregivers of Greater Derry welcomed one new member to their Board of Directors and elected four new officers in April. Caregivers, through a volunteer network, assists the elderly and disabled with services such as friendly visiting, grocery shopping, light chores, home repair and maintenance, and medical transportation. $25,000 Donated for Sustaining and Enhancing Services for the Homeless
Concord – Families in Transition (FIT), a Manchester and Concord-based homelessness nonprofit, is the recipient of a $25,000 donation from Merrimack County Savings Bank in Concord through the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) tax credit program. The donation will fund the upcoming expansion and relocation of OutFITters Thrift Store Boutique in Concord and help combat homeless by enhancing Families in Transition housing and programming. Jim Squires to Retire as Endowment for Health President
Concord – James W. Squires, M.D., has announced his plan to retire as president of the Endowment for Health, the state’s largest health foundation, on December 31, 2011, after a decade of service to the organization as its founding leader. Upon his retirement, the Endowment’s Board of Directors will name Mary Vallier-Kaplan as Interim President. Families First Receives grant from Anthem
Portsmouth - Families First and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire are pleased to announce a recent donation to the agency.
