  Leaderships NH Class of 2010
Leadership New Hampshire recently celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2010. The graduates were selected from a pool of qualified applicants from around the state. They completed a nine month program covering the issues, challenges and leadership opportunities in New Hampshire. Program curriculum included Health, Education, Environment, Criminal Justice and Government and Politics.

  Health Network Executive Director Joins HNHfoundation Board of Directors
Concord, NH – The HNHfoundation announces the election of Ms. Martha McLeod of Franconia, NH to its board of directors. Ms. McLeod is Executive Director of North Country Health Consortium, a rural health network that collaborates with critical access hospitals, federally qualified health centers, home health care agencies, nursing homes, regional mental health and developmental services and the Community Action Program and Family Resource Center serving northern New Hampshire.

  Lincoln Foundation Funds Art Education and Accessibility
Concord, NH - Arts education for New Hampshire children is a major focus of more than $90,000 in arts grants recently awarded by the Lincoln Financial Foundation. Many of the grants provide access to live performances or music instruction for school-age, immigrant, or underserved kids.

  Bank of America Grant Helps Community Health Center Meet Growing Demand
Portsmouth, NH – Making its fifth grant to the Seacoast’s community health center in as many years, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation has granted $12,000 to help Families First Health and Support Center provide medical and dental care for low-income, uninsured patients.

The grant will help Families First meet demand for affordable health care, which has spiked since the economic downturn began. In calendar year 2009, Families First provided primary care to more than 4,000 men, women and children, half of whom lack health insurance and more than 90% of whom live in low-income households. The number of visits from uninsured patients that year was up 32% over 2008.

  Trustees and Officers Elected to the Board of the NH Historical Society
Concord, NH - At its annual meeting on May 1, the New Hampshire Historical Society elected five people to its board of trustees. Newly appointed trustees are Kathleen A. Belko of New London, Q. David Bowers of Wolfeboro, and Margaret Marshall of Conway. Trustees elected to additional terms are Glenn K. Currie of Concord and Michael C. Sununu of Newfields. Also at the meeting, board officers were elected. Officers are Barbara A. Pitsch of Bedford, president; Stanley A. Hamel, Seabrook, vice president; David H. Watters, Dover, vice president; Michael C. Sununu, Newfields, treasurer; Donald E. Gartrell, Warner, secretary.

  Community Colleges of New Hampshire Foundation Welcomes New Board Member
Concord, NH - The Community Colleges of New Hampshire Foundation has appointed Richard Mason, of Portsmouth, to its Board of Directors. Mr. Mason is the Director of the Division of Fire Standards and Training and Emergency Medical Service under the New Hampshire Department of Safety. Director Mason earned his Associate's Degree in Fire Protection from the Lakes Region Community College (formerly New Hampshire Community Technical College at Laconia).

  Winners of Business in the Arts Awards Named at 26th Gala
NextEra Energy, RiverStone Resources, Persian Rug Galleries and Monadnock Living were announced as the winners of the Business in the Arts Awards at a gala evening presentation by the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts on May 17 in Manchester. More than 350 guests attended the 26th annual celebration. The winners were applauded for their outstanding support of the arts through sponsorships, staff involvement, project assistance and donated services to the arts in their communities and statewide.

  New Hampshire Charitable Foundation Awards More than $8.7 Million in 1st Quarter
Concord, NH — The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation announced it made more than 1000 awards totaling $8.7 million in the first quarter. Outside the government, the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation is the largest grant-maker to nonprofits in the state, annually making more than 3000 grants. There are two general competitive grant cycles: one that starts in the spring and the other begins in the fall. The fall 2010 application deadlines are Wednesday, September 1 (express grants) and Friday, October 1 (community impact grants).

  NHLA Attorney Sarah Mattson Receives Kirby Award
Concord, NH - At its Annual Dinner on May 4, 2010, the New Hampshire Bar Foundation presented attorney Sarah Mattson of New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA) with the Robert E. Kirby Award. The Robert E. Kirby Award was established in 1996 to honor the memory of Bob Kirby, a young lawyer, "of great skill, civility and good humor" who died that year at the age of 35. The Kirby Award recipient is an attorney 35 years old or younger who demonstrates the traits of civility, courtesy, perspective and excellent advocacy.

  Dr. Stephen Reno Named Executive Director of Leadership New Hampshire
Concord, NH – On April 15, the Leadership New Hampshire (LNH) Board of Directors announced the appointment of Dr. Stephen J. Reno as the next Executive Director of the organization. Reno, a resident of Manchester, will begin serving in this capacity on July 1, 2010. He stepped down as Chancellor of the University System of New Hampshire in 2009, a position he held since 2000.

 Business NH Magazine Names Businesses of the Decade
Business of the Decade AwardsIn their May 2010 issue, Business NH Magazine announced the winners of the Business of the Decade Award chosen from the award recipients from 2001-2009. Nonprofits were represented in the category of Construction/Engineering/Real Estate by the Laconia Area Community Land Trust. The Education/Nonprofit category was awarded to Easter Seals New Hampshire.

In addition, Thomas Raffio was named the exemplary Business Leader from the past decade. Mr. Raffio is President and CEO of Northeast Delta Dental in Concord, which is also a nonprofit.

The winners will be celebrated at the Business of the Decade Awards Gala on May 12.

  Families First Receives Grant from Rite Aid
Portsmouth, NH – For the second year in a row, The Rite Aid Foundation has made a $5,000 grant to Families First Health and Support Center. The grant will help the nonprofit community health center absorb the cost of providing subsidized primary care to uninsured patients, who are offered discounts based upon their income.
