  Mount Washington Observatory & Division of Parks and Recreation Reach Lease Agreement
A vote on September 23, 2009 by New Hampshire’s Governor and Council approved a new, mutually-beneficial lease agreement between the nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory and the Department of Resources and Economic Development’s Division of Parks and Recreation. The lease extends the nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory’s presence at the summit through 2014, and includes three five-year renewal periods. The leased space includes the iconic observation tower, offices, living quarters, and the Mount Washington Museum.

  TD Charitable Foundation Awards $10,000 Grant to Dental Center at Families First
Portsmouth, NH – For the fifth straight year, the TD Charitable Foundation, the giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank ®, has made a substantial donation to support the Dental Center at Families First. The recent grant brings the TD Charitable Foundation’s total support for the Families First Dental Center to $45,000 over the past five years. During that time, the number of dental patients served annually increased by 52 percent, up to 1,500 in the past year.

  Rolfe and Rumford Fund established at New Hampshire Charitable Foundation
Concord, N.H. – When the Rolfe and Rumford Home closed its doors in June of this year, its trustees had to figure what to do with the remaining assets. Ultimately, it decided to establish three new funds at New Hampshire Charitable Foundation to benefit area children and young adults.

  St. Mary’s Gives $3,200 to New Horizons Soup Kitchen and Shelter
Manchester, NH - St. Mary’s Bank announced it recently donated $3,200 to New Horizons For New Hampshire, Inc. in Manchester to help fund a computer based volunteer and donation kiosk. The new system will allow New Horizons to more effectively and efficiently track volunteers and donations which will increase productivity and improve the overall operations of delivering services to the needy.

  Grants made to Energy and Climate Collaborative
Concord, NH – Three private donors have stepped forward to help a new collaborative keep track of scores of programs and initiatives to address climate change in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, the Northeast Utilities Foundation (NU) and Stonyfield Farm have each made a significant grant to the New Hampshire Energy and Climate Collaborative to support its work and staff. The collaborative includes 18 leading institutions from business, government and nonprofits in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation serves as fiscal agent.

  Two Named to Forest Society Board of Trustees
Concord, NH - The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests announces the election of Bill Tucker of Goffstown and Pat Vasbinder of Concord to the Board of Trustees. Concord resident Patricia Vasbinder was vice president and chief operating officer of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. Bill Tucker is a New Hampshire native and long-time Goffstown resident. He has been an attorney at Wadleigh, Starr & Peters PLLC in Manchester since 1969 and has extensive experience in real estate law, working with town planning and zoning boards and conservation commissions.

  Women's Business Center Receives $10,000 Donation from TD Banknorth
Portsmouth, NH - TD Banknorth, through the TD Charitable Foundation, recently donated $10,000 to Women's Business Center as part of the bank's commitment to giving back to the community. The funds will help the organization expand its educational programs.   Grant Award Will Help Revitalize Manchester’s West Granite Neighborhood
Manchester, NH – NeighborWorks Greater Manchester announced today that the organization is a recipient of a 2009 Housing for Everyone Award from the TD Charitable Foundation. The non-profit organization is being recognized by TD Bank for its efforts to revitalize Manchester’s West Granite area, a neighborhood that has experienced significant decline in recent years due to a high rate of absentee landlords and foreclosures. A $20,000 grant accompanied the award, and will be utilized as part of a comprehensive strategy to redevelop dilapidated properties in the neighborhood.

  Over $3 Million Available for Businesses and Nonprofits to Finance Energy Improvements
Concord, NH — New Hampshire businesses and non-profit organizations can access new funds for energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy projects. The Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA) was recently awarded $3.5 million by the Office of Energy and Planning‘s State Energy Program, from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, to develop and implement a low-interest loan and grant program to help finance energy improvements in buildings owned by small, medium, and large businesses and non-profit organizations statewide.

  Children's Museum Receives Grant from Cogswell Benevolent Trust
Dover, NH – Thanks to a generous $10,000 grant from the Cogswell Benevolent Trust, the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire is launching a new program for families affected by autism. The Autism Hours program will provide free visits to the Children’s Museum of NH when it is closed to the public for families with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). The program is slated to begin in March 2010. Members of the museum’s education staff are working with UNH specialists and Easter Seals – The Family Place in Dover to develop the program and plan out the visits to ensure participants’ full enjoyment and exploration of the museum.

  Children’s Museum of NH welcomes Eric Gregg to Board of Directors
Dover, NH – Eric Gregg of Portsmouth has joined the Board of Directors at The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire. Gregg is CEO of OTO Technologies, a Portsmouth, NH-based software and IP development company focused on handheld computing and communications devices, systems and acquisitions. His background includes 16 years in the financial sector, including eleven years with Credit Suisse, where he served as Director of Investment Banking for the Buy-Side Insights Group. Eric is a graduate of Bowdoin College and Phillips Academy, and has led alumni fundraising efforts for both schools. He and his wife Leticia have two sons.

  Makin' It Happen Coalition Awards 8 Mini Grants
The 8 recipients of the Makin' It Happen mini grant process were announced at the Coalition Management Team Meeting on November 10, 2009.All 8 recipients will implement an evidence-based theory or practice in region H. The practices will aim to reduce underage use through one of three means: Increasing ones perception of harm due to alcohol, reducing one's access to alcohol, and addressing the social norms around alcohol.

  Bi-State Primary Care Association Executive Receives National Award
Concord, NH -- The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) recently presented Tess Stack Kuenning, executive director of Bi-State Primary Care Association (BSPCA), with the 2009 Norton Wilson State Regional Leadership Award for excellence in the health care association arena. Kuenning currently chairs the NACHC Steering Committee for the State/Regional Primary Care Associations, which charts the legislative and policy goals for health centers and their state associations.

  Children’s Museum of NH Receives $20,000 Grant from Thompson Endowment Fund
Dover, NH – The Roger R. and Theresa S. Thompson Endowment Fund has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire in support of the museum’s Funded Membership program. The Funded Membership program is the cornerstone of the museum’s outreach efforts and was created in 1994 in accordance with the wishes of Mrs. Theresa Thompson. This program provides free family memberships and admissions annually to hundreds of clients from 42 Rockingham and Strafford County Social Service agencies. Support from the Thompson Endowment Fund will enable the museum to expand this high-impact, sought-after program.
