The Center Welcomes New Board Member
The Center is pleased to announce the addition of Grace Mattern to our Board of Directors. Grace is the Executive Director of the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, where she has worked for the past twenty eight years. She is actively involved with public policy and systems advocacy to promote effective community interventions in response to domestic and sexual violence and coordinates a statewide network of programs that assist victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

MVSB Awards Grant to Winnipesaukee Playhouse
The Meredith Village Savings Bank Fund recently announced a $5,000 grant to the Winnipesaukee Playhouse of Laconia. The funds were granted to allow the theater to complete renderings for a state-of-the-art theater complex the organization plans to build at its future home in Meredith – the former site of the Annalee Doll Museum and Gift Shop. The award also provides support for the group's summer theater program for children.

NH Women’s Alliance Receives Grant to Continue Advocacy Work
Concord, NH - The New Hampshire Women's Alliance (NHWA), located in Concord, recently received a grant from the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation in Etna, New Hampshire to support operations in 2009. The NHWA will use this money to improve communications, grassroots organizing efforts, and advocacy coaching with women throughout the state. In addition, this grant will support an additional membership drive thereby leveraging new dollars for sustained organizational support. Read more...
Community Loan Fund Selected as Finalist for 2009 Wachovia Award
Concord, NH - For the second straight year, the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund (Community Loan Fund) is a finalist for one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious awards for responsible lending in the financial services industry. The Community Loan Fund was selected as a finalist for a Wachovia NEXT Award for Opportunity Finance because its innovative approach to manufactured housing mortgage financing has the potential to improve mortgage financing in that sector across the United States. The award comes with a five-million-dollar loan and a half-million-dollar grant, to help organizations take their success to the next level.

Political Library Elects New Officer and Board Members
Concord, NH - The Political Library recently elected two of New Hampshire’s political leaders to the organization’s Board of Directors. Jim Demers of Concord and Jim Merrill of Manchester were recently elected to serve three-year terms as Board Members for the Political Library. Children’s Museum of NH Welcomes Ava Beaulieu to Board of Directors
Dover, NH – The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire recently welcomed Ava Beaulieu of Amherst to its Board of Directors. Ms. Beaulieu is Director of Market Planning and Development for Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, where she is responsible for strategic and business planning, as well as business development. Prior to joining Harvard Pilgrim, she led the development of a vertically integrated system of care for Washington DC’s largest private hospital. Piscataqua Savings Bank awards seventh grant to Families First
Portsmouth, NH – For the seventh year in a row, Piscataqua Savings Bank has awarded a grant to Families First Health and Support Center’s dental program. The bank has given the Families First Dental Center a total of $80,000 since becoming a founding funder of the Dental Center in 2002. The new grant is for $5,000.

NH Nonprofit Receives Stimulus Monies to Help Mature Workers
Manchester, NH - The National Able Network, a nonprofit employment and training agency, will receive a portion of the $118.8 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to provide Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) to older Americans in Illinois, Indiana, New Hampshire, and Maine. 2009 KIDS COUNT Data Book Ranks New Hampshire First in the Nation on Child Well-Being
According to a report released this week by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, NH has once again claimed “First in the Nation” status for trends in child well-being, the fourth time in five years that we have been granted this honor. However, rank alone cannot paint a true picture of how NH youth are faring. Unfortunately, since 2000, NH has seen a three percent (3%) increase in Child Poverty. Now in its 20th year, the KIDS COUNT Data Book provides state-by-state information and statistical trends on the needs and conditions of America’s most disadvantaged children and families. Included in the Data Book is an essay, “Counting What Counts,” which looks at the country’s progress in keeping track of children’s well-being, measuring the impact of public programs, and holding ourselves accountable for improving their futures.
