 Women's Fund Awards Grant to Lifewise Community Projects
Hampton, NH — With a jump-start from the Women's Fund of NH, LifeWise Community Projects recently announced the beginning of its $315,000 annual fund-raising campaign for the 2008-09 academic year, dedicated to the delivery of alternative education. This Hampton-based, private nonprofit organization engages students attending middle schools, providing them with environmental (Water Guardians) and dropout prevention (Wildcat Youth Mentors) programming since 1999.

 2008 Patrick Jason Award Winner
Congratulations to Denise Doleac, executive director of the Children's Museum of New Hampshire, for being the recipient of the 2008 Patrick Jason Award, given by the Yankee Chapter of the Pubic Relations Society of America.

 NH Audubon Receives $146,000
According to the Concord Monitor's April 10, 2008 Business Notes, "The New Hampshire Audubon and the Prescott Conservancy Inc. announces plans to expand programming at the Prescott Farm Audubon Center in Laconia. The new programming will be supported by $146,000 in grants from the Samuel P. Pardoe Foundation, an increase of $76,000 from last year's commitment. The new grant will support expanded environmental education at the center and will increase the center's role as a venue for many types of community programs."

 Franconia Chamber Names Executive Director
According to the April 28, 2008 Union Leader, "Franconia Notch Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors has approved Barbara Ashley as executive director. Ashley previously worked in the banking and tourism industries in the North Country."

 Preservation Alliance Announces 2008 Awards
The New Hampshire Preservation Alliance has presented Preservation Achievement Awards to seven restoration and renovation projects and one new construction project. Three education, policy, and planning initiatives and two leaders in historic preservation activity were also honored.

 Hoffmans Receive Granite State Award
According to the May 12, 2008 Union Leader, Keene State College presented John and Jean Hoffman of the Hoffman Family Foundation the Granite State Award "for their 'vision, leadership and generosity to the citizens of New Hampshire'" at the Keene State College graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 11. Keene State College President Helen Giles-Gee said, "We recognize John and Jean Hoffman today for their civic mindedness, for their leadership in support of charitable organizations, and for their spirit of cheerful giving in the region and elsewhere."

 Heritage United Way Makes Impact with 2008 Grants
Manchester, NH - Heritage United Way (HUW) in partnership with its Board of Directors and the Community Impact Committee proudly announces the disbursement of more than $1.535 million in grants to 34 non-profit agencies for the period of May 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009.  Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund awards $1.2 million in grants
Concord, NH - The Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund, a donor advised fund of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, has awarded 20 grants totaling $1,221,278 through its competitive grant application program. Grants were awarded to organizations throughout Coos County, New Hampshire; Coaticook, Quebec; and northern Vermont in the fields of economic development, conservation and sustainable forestry, education and basic needs, and community safety net.

 Children's Museum receives $25,000 from Hannaford
Dover, NH - Hannaford Supermarkets donated $25,000 toward the Children's Museum of New Hampshire in downtown Monday, bringing the museum closer to its goal of $3.6 million. As of Monday, the museum had raised roughly $2.5 million.

 YWCA Presents 28th Annual Susan B. Anthony Award
Manchester, NH - On March 31, 2008 the YWCA of Manchester presented the 28th Susan B. Anthony Award to Susan Manchester of Sheehan, Phinney, Bass + Green.  This award is given annually to recognize the contributions of an outstanding woman who lives or works in New Hampshire and exemplifies the ideals of Susan B. Anthony who believed passionately in and worked for, civil and political rights, and equality and dignity for all people.  These ideals can be demonstrated in any aspect of our life:  personal, professional, volunteer, etc. 

Also honored was Etana Jacobi of West High School as the Young Woman of the Year.  This award is presented to a young woman who has shown particular growth in confidence or leadership skills through her civic/community service actions.

The event featured keynote speaker Dr. Malcolm Smith, Family Education and Family Policy Specialist for UNH Cooperative Ext. and faculty member of UNH Department of Family Studies.

 Outstanding Women of NH
Congratulations to the following women who won the 2008 Outstanding Women of New Hampshire Awards: Jan Cohen, humanitarian, philanthropist, and advocate for social justice; Juliana Eades, president of the NH Community Load Fund; Jahleh Ghanbari, student at Keene State College; and Dottie Morris, educator at Keene State College and Antioch University of New England.

 NH Project Learning Tree Announces New Communications Specialist
Concord, NH - NH Project Learning Tree is very pleased to announce that Sara Head has been chosen as their new Communications Specialist. Sara comes to NH Project Learning Tree from UNH, where she has been the Graduate Program Coordinator for the Natural Resources and Earth Systems Science PhD program. This is Sara's second career. She began her professional life as a nurse, then earned a Master's degree in math education in 2005. She is equally enthusiastic about education and the natural world.

Sara will begin work on April 7. She will work to raise awareness of and participation in the NH Project Learning Tree's innovative educational programs. This new position will have the opportunity to shape and implement a comprehensive communications strategy, mainly through print and electronic media, as well as support and enhance ongoing programs.

 Rochester Child Care Center to Benefit from Annual Golf Tournament
Rochester, NH - Rochester Child Care Center is pleased to announce that they have been chosen to benefit from Lonza Biologics Harvest Open Golf Tournament to be held on Sept. 15, 2008. Lonza Biologics, located in Portsmouth, chooses several organizations to work with each year and focuses their charity fundraising efforts on the seacoast area.

Reno, chancellor of the University System of NH; and Jim Roche, president and CEO of the Business and Industry Association of NH for being named on Business NH Magazine’s “NH’s 10 Most Powerful Business Leaders” list.

 Tree Care Industry Association Receives Grants
Tree Care Industry Association and it’s Foundation (TCIA) received two grants, with a combined total project award of $321,130. The first award was from the USDA Forest Service to develop training, educational and field tools for commercial arborists, others in the green industry and consumers on an integrated and science-based approach for addressing the invasive tree insect problem within the Eastern US. The second award was from the US Department of Labor, OSHA office of Training. As part of the first responder team in disaster relief, arborists often work with utility companies and other response team members to clear lines, remove debris and restore essential functionality of public works. OSHA’s Susan Harwood Training award to TCIA will provide the knowledge to professionals within the green industry to safely work around overhead conductors and live wires.

 Coalition Receives Grant
The Monadnock Alcohol and Drug Abuse Coalition (MADAC) recently received a $500 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to host a Town Hall Meeting in spring 2008. The meeting will take place on Monday, March 31st (location and time to be determined) and will address the issue of underage drinking. Representatives from all sectors of the community will be encouraged to participate to learn about the consequences of underage drinking and mobilize to address the issue in the Monadnock Region. The SAMHSA sponsored Town Hall Meetings will take place across the country to coincide with the Nation’s observance of Alcohol Awareness Month (April).  For more information about the event please contact MADAC member, Linda Rubin at 355-3040 ext 102 or lrubin@mfs.org.

 Hyder Enterprises Presents Grants
Bob Maguire, representing Hyder Enterprises and his great-uncles Mitchell and Edward Hyder, presented grants of $25,000 each to Families First Health and Support Center and the Foundation for Seacoast Health. Helen Taft of Families First, left, and Debra Grabowski of the Foundation for Seacoast Health accepted the awards. The Hyders have committed a total of $125,000 to each nonprofit organization over a five-year period.

 The Little Nature Museum Celebrates Anniversary 
The Little Nature Museum Inc., located at Gould Hill Orchards in Contoocook, will be celebrating its 53rd year of nature education in January 2008. The museum was founded by Sandra W. Martin when she was only 12 years old. It has always had an educational program as well as exhibits, collections, special events, and for the past 37 years, interpretive trails. The museum is run entirely by volunteers, open seasonally, and a federally registered nonprofit organization. During the off-season, the museum hosts free programs at the Community Room in the Hopkinton Town Library, Contoocook. Visitors should check out the website for more information: www.littlenaturemuseum.org. The museum is looking for volunteers for 2008 to help visitors enjoy their museum visit.
