Legislative Updates Lobbying Bill Action PostponedOn May 6, the Legislative Administration Committee took no action on HB 91 and instead decided to consider new movement on amendments to SB 482 which would salvage some of the lobbying amendments included in HB 91, however, not the 75-hour threshold for nonprofits to communicate with legislators before triggering lobbyist registration. Several improvements would be salvaged including moving to quarterly reporting and various exemptions (i.e. testifying at a hearing, serving on a task force, providing research to a committee) . Advocates are seeking clarification on the effect this would have on advocacy efforts by nonprofits. Stay tuned to this website for more information. Hoffmans Receive Granite State AwardAccording to the May 12, 2008 Union Leader, Keene State College presented John and Jean Hoffman of the Hoffman Family Foundation the Granite State Award "for their 'vision, leadership and generosity to the citizens of New Hampshire'" at the Keene State College graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 11. Keene State College President Helen Giles-Gee said, "We recognize John and Jean Hoffman today for their civic mindedness, for their leadership in support of charitable organizations, and for their spirit of cheerful giving in the region and elsewhere." |
