U.S. Senate Passes Jobs Bill
On February 24, the U.S. Senate passed a $15 billion jobs bill. The bill includes a $13 billion payroll tax exemption for businesses - including nonprofits - that hire workers who were unemployed for at least 60 days before their hire.  There is also a $1,000 tax credit for every new worker retained on the payroll for at least a year. The Alliance for Children and Families has published an analysis that indicates that this legislation could provide $1-billion in savings to nonprofit groups and generate 8,000 to 18,000 new nonprofit jobs.

We’d appreciate knowing if you are likely to take advantage of the job-creation tax credit and hire new workers. Email Claudia Damon to share your thoughts.

To help in tracking legislation that is potentially of interest to the nonprofit sector, we have created two legislative update tables--one for the NH House and one for the NH Senate.
