Applications available for 2010 Champions in Action® awards

Citizens Bank New Hampshire and WMUR-TV have announced that 2010 Champions in Action® applications for the third and fourth quarters are available for New Hampshire nonprofits in the areas of environmental impact and arts & culture.

Environmental impact is the focus for the third quarter of 2010 and a nonprofit organization that provides support in this area will be selected in July. A nonprofit organization focused on arts & culture will be chosen for the fourth quarter of 2010 and will be announced in October. The application deadline for both categories is Friday, April 9, 2010 at 5 p.m.

Applications can be obtained online at www.citizensbank.com/community/champions. Completed applications should be sent to: Citizens Bank, Public Affairs Department, Attn: Champions in Action program, 875 Elm Street, Manchester, NH 03101. All applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 9.

Champions in Action is a joint initiative of Citizens Bank and WMUR-TV that is designed to recognize and support nonprofit organizations for their contributions to New Hampshire communities. A new Champion in Action is selected each quarter among a range of social service areas.

The Champion receives:

  • A $25,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from the Citizens Bank Foundation.
  • Media coverage from WMUR-TV, including public service announcements and television profiles.
  • Volunteer support from Citizens and WMUR-TV employees.
  • Extensive public relations support.
  • Promotional support, highlighting the Champion in Action in all Citizens Bank branches and on its ATMs.
  • Exposure on both Citizens Bank and WMUR-TV Web sites.

Organizations selected as a Champion in Action must demonstrate a history of strong fiscal responsibility and leadership.  In addition organizations should show how they will make effective use of the support and resources included in this award.

To be recognized as a Champion in Action the following eligibility requirements must be met:

  • Being a New Hampshire-based, nonprofit organization that serves New Hampshire and addresses the designated social concern for the quarter.
  • Priority consideration will be given to organizations located in the same areas as Citizens branches.
  • Providing verification of tax-exempt status under section 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Having a total operating budget of $5 million or less.
